Corporations you patronize, even though they're part of the "bad guys"
Me? Marriott. I do all my business travel through them. Yes they are run by RW Crazies, the Marriott family is up there with the worst of them.

But their hotels? All of them are comfortable. I have yet to find a chain with that level of comfort, size and location. Their point system is pretty good too. I fully endorse their product , not their politics.

6. Not all are bad...
It depends on your point of view; some are worse than others, and others still have a very braided record of good and not-so-good deeds. I don't think it's very black-or-white a scenario...

But Marriott clearly is one of the bad guys

Still, they run a tight ship.

7. HEB grocery stores
Too lazy to make the trip to Whole Foods (who does a great job supporting local farmers) or the Farmers' Markets, so I slip down the the mega-grocery. Bear in mind there's no big grocery alternative unless I go to Wal-Mart (which I ain't) 'cause they ran Albertson's and Kroger out of the city/state pretty much.

33. Weird but true, I swear. Here's why...
...since the mid-'80s, I've lived in L.A. and NYC. Since 2000, I've been in NYC. No Wal-Marts here, and none in L.A. when I lived there. I assume there's one in my hometown of Pittsburgh, but I have not seen it during my infrequent visits back there.

I am, however, a regular at my local K-Mart.

Oh yeah--- I've been boycotting Exxon since even before the oil spill. This hasn't seemed to have hurt their profits any. Oh well. We do what we can.

17. Starbucks...
and I work there. :puke:

Good human rights record, great environmental protection record. Dedicated to treating employees great. All rare for a corporation in a commodities-buying business. Strangely, Starbucks even has a net positive effect on the business of small competitors typically.

Terrible record on:

animal exploitation (Actively supportive of it even. It's part of why I'm leaving soon.)
anti-labor
not terribly responsive to customer concerns.
support and partnership with other exploitative corporations.

21. Two of the biggies - Coca-Cola and Tesco.
I discovered yesterday that Schweppes Tonic is produced in the U.K. by Coca-Cola.

I buy my newspaper at a mini-Tesco (the largest supermarket in the U.K., notorious for its anti-competitive and anti-local community activities) each morning, because it drove the small independent convenience store out of business and I'd have to make a notable detour to buy it elsewhere (given that I don't drive).

24. Probably too many to count
Due to eating fast food too often; just about all fast food chains are part of the "bad guys."

Someone mentioned H-E-B above; I go there sometimes. It seems almost impossible to go to grocery stores that aren't Repug, though. I go to Kroger the most often. I know that they're at least unionized on some level, but I've read that they're Repug donors as well.

28. About to move over to Comcast
For Internet. I've always used the little guys for my Internet connection. But the latest, Speakeasy, has turned crooked. There's a problem with a bad circuit board in the Central Office. And it's even been diagnosed by one of their few competent techies. But they'd rather charge me $200 to have some chap roll up to my flat. The alternative is Verizon, but the bad circuit board still needs replacing. So tonight I tell them to switch me off.

I have to wait till Sunday for Comcast to unlock my line (I'm self-installing). In the meantime, I've charged the batteries on my short wave radio for my news.

Marriott is the stepford wife of hotels. We stayed at one of their resort type hotels in the Virgin Islands. GOD! The staff was like programmed robots, hell, I haven’t stayed at a Marriott since, and would rather sleep in a gas station restroom.

Yes, the founder's religious views are not my own by any measure, but I damn sure love their Chick-fil-a sandwiches. I'm going to try the new McDonald's southern chicken sandwich to see if I like it too. That way I can get my fried chicken sandwich fix without patronizing Chick-fil-a.
