spybot S&D question
A few days ago, I updated the files and ran spybot. I set it to "immunize" with the new files.

Now, I keep getting these popup alerts telling me that Spybot has blocked "Avenue A, Inc."

I'm glad it's blocking it, but I can't find any damned way to turn off the alerts, which are more annoying than problem itself. I've ended up having to exclude Avenue A (which is a cookie, I think) just to avoid the alerts.

anybody know how I can keep the protection but disable the alerts? Thanks.

1. Go to 'settings' in Spybot
Look through all the options. There may be a box that shuts off warnings.

Also, clear your temp internet files on a regular basis. Just go through the regular 'Disk Cleanup' utility.

2. yeah
I did look through all the settings. I changed one setting that looked like it would work, but the alerts still come. Maybe I need to reboot?

3. not sure if that's what you mean

But go to the "immunize" tab and scroll all the way down (it doesn't look scrollable, but it is). There you can select a "block silent" option.

4. yes
I found that.

But after doing that, I still get the alerts. I'm going to reboot now and see if that helps. Thanks!

5. Run the cleaner.
Clean EVERYTHING out, except New.Net. it is a Link Stack Protocol rerouter that, if you take it out, shuts down your TCP/IP stack. What it essentially does is forces you to use their DNS servers. If you take it out, no DNS resolution. You need to go to ceex.org and DL their stack healing software and run it before taking out New.net.

Also, get a program called Codestuff Starter and shut down alien programs that are in your startup. One thing you definately need to turn off is msmsgr.exe.

6. well
my system is currently pretty clean (from running Spybot AND Adaware)

I do, however, have a lot of items in startup and Processes. I don't know what they are, though, so I'm reluctant to remove them.

As to msmgr.exe, do you mean msnmsgr.exe? is that Microsoft Messenger? I use that program.

7. update...
well, rebooting seemed to have solved the problem. I guess since the immunization is a startup program, you can't change its settings on the fly, like I tried.

I wish they'd just say "reboot after changes" in the window :)

8. I did some googling and this seems to be a real PEST!
.
.
.

Especially for IE users apparently.

I use Mozilla 1.6, and if blocks ALL pop-ups unless I give permission to certain sites. Others have expressed the same problem that even with Spy Bot your problem doesn't go away

Maybe Bill Gates as his fingers in this Avenue A Inc., which by the way is a MAJOR ad agency that advertises for many people

If your curious, here's a link to the results from google

I even got an information page in My Yahoo yesterday that recommends Mozilla as a superior browser to IE, and I agree.

Anyhow, good luck !
