Am I the only one who has zero interest in seeing the "Speed Racer" movie?
It will probably make $700 million at the box office.

1. I say it either is a major hit or total bomb
Nothing in between.

But I don't really have much an interest in it, no.

3. Once I saw a trailer, my infinite excitement went to zero. Looks awful.
Speed Racer was my favorite show as a kid, and I continue to love it to death. It was everything I loved in life! Gadgets, foreign settings, weird people, and a really cool car.

I was very excited when I heard a movie was being done.

Then I saw a trailer, and it looks like utter shit. Worse than Matrix 3, and that's really saying something. Every movie those fuckers do is worse than the last one.

I can't wait to see what their 20th movie is like.

14. Everyone is predicting a bomb...
...it's supposed to not be very good. Not enough like the cartoon to appeal to the nostalgia factor of people old enough to remember the cartoon. Not good enough to stand independently to younger moviegoers. And based off the trailers/commercials much more of a young male appeal rather than a female one. I know my young daughter has absolutely no interest in it. I don't know if it will tank but it will definitely not be a blockbuster.

23. Here's some of what the Major Critics say: >>>>
135 minutes of noisy, infantile and shockingly boring mind rot that will inspire only partial epilepsy in viewers whose ages remain in the single digits and complete ennui in those who have passed the big 1-0.

...It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the entire movie was paid for by the makers of Tylenol.

.
.
.Unless you have an incredibly low threshold for kid/chimp comedy, a sense of fun is what's missing in Speed Racer and that should have been the first ingredient

And THIS from Roger Ebert:
"Speed Racer" is a manufactured widget, a packaged commodity that capitalizes on an anthropomorphized cartoon of Capitalist Evil in order to sell itself and its ancillary products. Corporate partners in the venture include General Mills, McDonald's, Mattel, Topps, LEGO and Target.......

This is one movie that my eyes will never (pay to) see.

31. Eh, I might download it ;)
I watched the cartoon because it was a cartoon, not because I really cared that much for the "quality" of, well, any part of it. I would not seek it out today, but it was fun as a kid. I'll know quickly enough whether it's worth watching the rest of the way or not, but at least I won't waste anything but a little bandwidth ;)

Now, if they had made the movie based on the old Alpha Team "Go Speed Go" ep-disk, it might have gotten better reviews

I am officially out of its key demographic. I am also (proudly) out of the key demographic that is supposed to turn backflips (and open their wallets) every time the movie industry dredges up Yet Another Superhero To Exploit By Making A Mega-Movie Out Of It.

Too bad--I used to be a big movie buff. But absolutely nothing at the megaplexes interests me now.

35. Saw a 1-star review.
Edited on Fri May-09-08 12:43 PM by ElboRuum
So, with the formula I've worked up...

P = (R - 1)/10

Where P is the probability I will see the movie, R is the number of whatevers it got in the review (unitless value, therefore... of course)...

P = (1 - 1)/10 = 0.

No you aren't the only one.

Of course, I hate going to the theaters these days and having to take out a small loan just to get a pack of Raisinets, so even a movie with 5 boots or tomatoes or whatever has only a 40% probability of getting me off my ass.

I didn't think Speed Racer made a good CARTOON. I mean, the thing that made it funny/cool/memeworthy was the staccato hyperfast dubbing and the weird mugging of the characters. How the F:nuke:! do you make a movie out of that?!

I think this whole "live-action comic/cartoon" shit is about to Fonzie the fish.

I have come to the conclusion that the Japanese government would be justified to use the Self-Defense Forces to destroy and kill everyone involved in the production of this complete bastardization of a anime classic.

Besides, I've seen the actress who plays Trixie on Leno. The stupid is strong with that one.

Disappointed that Christini Ricci and Susan Sarandon are in the movie.

It has to be a crapfest. It's got a monkey in it, for fuck's sake.

If they had made the entire movie CGI and just had the actors supply voicework, I would consider seeing it.
Putting real people in the middle of all that flashy computer stuff just makes everything look fake.
