What does your significant other think of DU?
Are they a member? Do they even know? I sometimes think mine thinks I've joined a cult or something. ;)

Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 09:38 PM by kanrok
We watch TV together and I type like mad from time to time. She just looks at me and shakes her head. She is generally apolitical, in fact, was born and raised a Republican. She is very smart (much smarter than I could hope to be) and thinks things through. She is totally against Bush, thinks he's creepy, in fact. As for DU, she has no real opinion, she just thinks I'm nuts.

9. Hates it.
Nothing personal, y'all, but DU means it my precious attention is taken away from exciting things like laundry, cleaning, bookkeeping, and such. Plus now, when RW pundits are on, I walk around muttering "What bullshit". I yell at T.V. when * is on. I am making a liberal out of our child.

Little things like that. Usually I say that you all are mentally ill conspiracy nuts, and that S.O. shouldn't read such things. Leave it to me, honey, I'm a professional.

10. He's a member with under 20 posts
He doesn't post here anymore and he used spy on me. As far as I know, he doesn't anymore now. Now that his work situation changed, he doesn't have the time to do it.

He thinks I use DU as an escape. Probably true, but there are worse things that one could do, right? I don't eat too much, don't smoke, don't use drugs, drink very minimally, hardly go out, and I've managed to stay faithful to him for over 13 years. I need some intellectual stimulation SOMEWHERE in my life.

22. Well
When you yell at someone for no reason, lie to them, and treat them like shit for long enough, eventually, they get sick of it. If that makes me a bitch or terrible in the eyes of anyone here than so be it.

When you have a long term relationship that deteriorates out of someone else's bad choices, then feel free to judge me. Until then, you obviously have no clue.

62. It wasn't like that until a few years ago
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 10:21 PM by populistmom
It was after the children came which makes things more complex. You can't just think about yourself in situations when there are others to consider. It takes awhile sometimes to resolve situations like this. But again, thanks for your judgemental attitude. As a single, childless male, you do NOT have a clue what it means to wholly love and be responsible for other people enough to make sacrifices of yourself at times.

You're a real man to piss on someone when they're down and on their birthday. THAT takes guts!

63. Who's being judgemental?
You said he doesn't post here much, I volunteered that perhaps it's because you air all your greivances about him here. I wouldn't feel comfortable here if I were him. You posted a poll asking if you spent too much time bashing your husband on DU, so apparently I'm not the only one that's wondered that. Now you act surprised by that assertation?

Secondly, how the hell am I supposed to know it's your birthday?

Happy Birthday  Would you like a chocolate?

11. He thinks that I spend too much time here
He is usually on his computer though when I'm on DU. He told me about DU originally and used to post but got banned. He is more liberatarian than me, or so he thinks. We scored very similiar on the politcal compass test, the one with the x, y axis. We were both in the lower left quadrant.

15. Definitely love/hate
When I first got hooked, he thought I was in some cult. My hatred for the chimp seemed bizarre to him. Gradually, he realized I was talking about real people and real friends. He saw the value. Then I started talking about the latest information and he realized why I'm so enmeshed. My husband is now more rabid anti-chimp than I. Well, he rants better than I do. ;-)

He wasn't, but being with me soon changed that, rest assured. I'm always sending him threads or talking about what's going on here.

It's great fun between us. He's generally "tinfoil hat libertarian", except on some economic issues, and is a great debater -- very rational. I always learn something new arguing politics with him, every day. DU provides excellent material.

She came out and announced in the forum last year that we are actually a couple.

She likes DU as I do, but right now she is having a hard time dealing with the anti gay marriage stuff that has been popping up, so she is taking a break.

But she will be back once she regains her strength for the next long battle of gay marriage rights in the U.S.

So far, I was light years ahead of the media on 'WMD', 'AWOL', and, now I just told him about Junior's days in Skull 'n' Bones.

The ambiguous sexuality thing of our "leader" is intriguing. We both think he's not what he pretends to be in that department!
