5. see, I'm kinda thinking I shouldn't dress TOO liberal-ly |
|
If he can tell right off that I'm a rabid liberal, he won't give a rat's ass what i think. But, if I look more middle-of-the-road, that might give him pause. I'm bringing my kids (girls, ages 4 and 2) along as props: as far as I'm concerned, a Republican's biggest nightmare is a Democratic soccer mom. Granted, currently, I'm not nearly as cool as those NASCAR dads, but I used to be. ;)

I'll be wearing a suit, white shirt and tie, as I will be going by after lunch.
The first impression is non-threatening in appearance (that way when the hammer lands on their head it's more of a shock).
And the aftermath is more frightening, too ("My God...these people look just like...US!").

A suit indicates that yo mean business! His first impression will be that you are someone he should be listening to. That's the basic psychology of clothing.
I also agree with another poster down the line. Start with something positive or at least non-threatening. Then drop the hammer!

6. At least you're not meeting |
|
The other senator for texas tomorrow. Now that's a scary thought. Maybe you should take a cue from the Bush women collection and wear some sort of pastel frock.

Hit on the conservative discontent hot spots:
Deficits Out of control spending No WMD's in Iraq Disregard for states rights Patriot Act and degradation of individual rights
that'll scare Corny....

10. Ask him why he's so hot for FMA |
|
Especially, since it has been rumored here on DU that Perry is gay - supposedly caught in bed with the secretary of state. Is he afraid that he won't be asked to their wedding?

13. Start with something positive |
|
That way, he'll be more likely to take you seriously.
Senator Cornyn is a big supporter of Bush's Moon/Mars initiative.
That is (IMHO) a good place to express praise and enthusiasm, or at least transmit that sentiment from me.

14. Isn't Bush's moon/mars push just a round about way to fund research |
|
and development of military applications in space? Primarily the "Star Wars" defense program?

16. I've not heard that take on it. |

The technology needed for SDI is not the same as needed for going to moon/mars.

15. Ask him about the corporation kickbacks for RAGA |
|
Tell him that in Delaware that's keeping their top Republican, Attorney General Jane Brady, from running for bigger offices in her state and keeping Bill Pryor from winning his judicial nomination. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0717-02.htm

23. Well, the meeting's over. |
|
I'm bummed because he wasn't there. According to his receptionist, he's still in DC. Wait--no, maybe he's in Dallas? :eyes:
Whatever. I must've been the first person to drop in. I politely (and very fashionably, I must add!) introduced myself, handed her the petition, pointed out the military families on it (my portion of the petition had over 300 signatures, 5 from military families; others will stop by today with other parts of the petition) and explained why I think Bush should be censured, and why I think even Republicans such as Coryn should encourage such a measure. I told her that others would be stopping by.

You did well.
His office was closed when I arrived at 1:10, with a sign on it saying:
"We will be out of the office until 2:15. You may leave your petitions at the door or return when we re-open."
There was a basket of fruit and petition packets bulging from underneath the door. I jammed mine in.
While there was small amount of in/out building traffic, I saw no one that I recognized as being part of our effort.
Still, it was empowering just to go there and do that.

Moveon sent me a form to fill out.. did you get it? I mentioned how disappointed I was that he wasn't there and said I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Coryn went to the same undergrad institution as I did (Trinity). I was all set to bond with him about that!
