Do any Duers out there smoke a pipe? |
|
I smoke a pipe about once every two weeks or so. I smoke a blend of tobacco called Different seasons that I get at a local bookstore.

6. It's cheaper than ready-rolls in the long run. |

Though depending on what you buy, a pipe can get expensive. I managed to get a factory second House of Uhle pipe for only $15.00 (They usually retail for about 1 1/2 to 2 times the price) and I like it very much. It's important to find a pipe that you feel comfortable with. It's sort of like getting a cat. You don't choose the pipe, the pipe chooses you.

I haven't found a specialty tobacco place around here that carries pipe smoke, just cigars, so I've been smoking mostly stuff from the pharmacy like Captain Black and Borkum RIff. My favorite so far is Capt black's "Royal", very smooth.

Love smoking the pipe. I don't do it as often as I would like, but it's always relaxing and wonderful and oh, so peaceful...

does one inhale the smoke, or is it more like smoking a cigar?

10. Pipe smoke should not be inhaled. |
|
Like cigars, pipe tobacco is stronger and harsher than ciggarette tobacco and should just be held in the mouth for a few seconds per puff. After a while of this one begins to feel a peppery bite on the tongue and lining of the mouth and probably a light 'buzz',

Pipes- I like the English blends available online, especially Renaissance by GL Pease or (my own favorite) Frog Morton. The "aromatic" tobaccos smell good but have little taste. The English blends may startle you at first but after a bit you'll never want to smoke the aromatics again. Experimentation is fun and fairly cheap online. Corn cob pipes (made in USA) are very good smokers I use often as well as my briar pipes (like all good hobbits, I favor the churchwarden).
Cigars- I like the maduro sticks by Indian Tabac, Cupido and Puros Indios.

but quit when I found myself flirting with oral cancer. Only got as far as mild dysplasia, but something about the phrase "pre-cancerous condition" got my attention, so I haven't smoke anything in nearly 14 years now.

smoke a pipe, and I liked the smell. I enjoy an occasional cigar (Ashtons} The cigar shop I go to sells pipes and tobacco and I was seriously considering buying one. Maybe I will ask my mom to send me one of dad's pipes. It would kinda be like havin a smoke with the old man !!!

But my $250 meerschaum pipe broke a while ago, and I haven't got around to replacing it yet.. been smoking cigars for a couple years now, though. Mostly Macanudo maduros and Fuentes.

...and am partial to Peterson pipes. I have a couple from the Sherlock Holmes collection, very classic style, and I tend to favor the 3/4 bent types, although I have one or 2 canadian straight pipes. It's very relaxing.

I actually started with smoking a pipe, but later realized that cigs are more "handy". Still, I enjoy my pipe whenever I remember to go to the pipe shop for a good Cavendish.
