1. Geddy might be a standout singer with tremendous range,
and might do an excellent job of fronting the band (his solo album, "My Favorite Headache", isn't bad either). However, IMHO it is Neil Peart who brought such incredible lyrical talent to the band. Their first album with the original drummer was good for a debut effort but I don't think they would have had one-tenth the career they've had without Neil Peart.

One thing I should mention, though, is that I don't think Peart is as good a drummer as many people do. Yes, he has incredible speed and accuracy, but his fatal flaw is that so many of his riffs are very similar, especially on the later albums. I can think of at least ten different drummers in other progressive and hard rock bands who I would consider better due to their willingness to constantly vary their style.

Just my two paragraphs... er,cents. Anyone got anything to add? :)

6. Can you explain what you mean please?
Not to be rude or anything, I just don't get the context of what you're saying about Rutsey. Did something happen to him after he left the band?

8. sorry about the delay
I fell asleep shortly after my last post, and just now thought to check back in.

I only meant that it sucked for Rutsey to miss out the incredible ride the boys have had. Kind of like Pete Best and the Beatles. But unlike Best, I don't think Rutsey was fired. (Maybe that makes it even tougher for him.) I wonder what he's up to these days.

11. Peart is overrated.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 03:08 AM by FDRrocks
He isn't a Krupa or Buddy, not even close. But given the last 3 decades of music, he is the best. The one that might rival him is Mike Portney. I think Portney is better, actually.

I've only been drumming for a decade, but Peart parts aren't inaccesible to me. Portney plays some sick and innovative crap, though. I cannot do his parts. Just as I cannot touch upon Buddy Rich's parts yet.

7. Ok
That's a little more like it! Those guys are some of the most talented and technically correct musicians that I've ever had the fortune to listen to, live or on record, tape, cd, etc.

12. Hey, Neil's had a bunch of hardships lately...
I wouldn't want to be Neil Peart right now.

both for his family loses and his way of thinking.

edit: you must bypass my original post, I thought the topic title read "Who Personifies Bush" with a rush related Poll. Thats where it came from. I would've said neil anyways, and included the mean parts.
