Wife of Bill Murray files for divorce
(or should this be in LBN? :P)

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The wife of entertainer Bill Murray has filed for divorce after nearly 11 years of marriage, alleging he abused her and is addicted to marijuana and alcohol. Jennifer Butler Murray filed divorce papers May 12 in Charleston County. She owns a home on Sullivans Island, S.C., where she lives with the couple's four children.

The complaint was first reported by The Post and Courier of Charleston. It also alleges frequent abandonment by the former "Saturday Night Live" star.

Bill Murray's attorney, John McDougall, wouldn't comment on the allegations, but said the entertainer "is deeply saddened by the breakup of his marriage."

The complaint, which doesn't specify instances of Murray's alleged marijuana or alcohol use, alleges he would often leave without telling his wife and says he "travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons." It also alleges Murray physically abused his wife and last November "hit her in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her.'"

1. Well, if he makes her watch his Sofia Coppola and Wes Anderson movies...
she has excellent grounds for a mental cruelty case

Not counting Ghost Busters.

10. They may indeed be his best works, but that says more about the ouvre...
of Bill Murray than it does their quality

Sofia Coppola = ultimate tedious art school chick
Wes Anderson = dweeb who never got over his first exposure to Salinger

14. Sofia had one good film in her and she did it
I liked Lost in Translation. But when watching it, I thought "this is everything she learned in film school. She could never follow this up."

And she didn't.

23. Anyone who took a basic fiction-writing course in college
Had already read that story one hundred times over before Sofia brought it to the screen. I'm not saying that it's hackneyed and played-out, but it is a little trite and threadbare...

24. Meh - like I said. She had one good film in her
Doesn't mattter that its a tale told over and over again - its still better than 99% of the crap we get out of Hollywood.

Case in point? The Zohan.

26. To be fair, that's like using the nuclear option
Person1: This is the worst film I've ever seen. I defy you to name one that's worse.

Person2: Zohan.

Person1: Well, obviously. But other than that?

28. Oh - you have to admit there are levels
Level 1 - Citizen Kane

Level 2 - The Usual Suspects

Level 3 - Forrest Gump

Level 4 - Friday the 13th

Level 5 - Sleepless in Seattle

Level 6 - Gatorbait

Level 7 - Zohan, or anything else with Sandler in it. Including Punch Drunk Love.

29. I find Punch Drunk Love surprisingly watchable
His performance is uncharacteristically restrained, and it's got Emily Watson and Philip Seymour Hoffman for pity's sake! They're worth the price of admission all by themselves!

But I like your spectrum anyway. Kind of like a Terror Alert Level meter for film.

5. Murray has always been nuts...
...I remember his antics from my years in L.A. I saw him often. He was not a guy you wanted to deal with or approach. So color me not surprised. Terrific actor, though. Sad. If true.

21. He's always been nice around here. I've seen him 4 or 5 times around Charleston
Mount Pleasant, and the islands. One time was in a bookstore and he was very funny. Making fun of Al Franken's book, actually. He picked up a book on CD and said, "Eleven hours. That's a LOT of Al Franken."

22. I'm sure he is hard to live with.
He also is a unique and extraordinary talent. One of the greatest comedians ever, when he is in the right situation.

I think "Groundhog Day" will be considered one of the greatest comedies ever put on film, for a variety of reasons.
