Did anyone see Law & Order last night? |
|
They a storyline with a company called "Hazelton" that was a contractor making wads of cash in Iraq.
The whole plot line was about the death of this liberal protester. They even showed his apartment in which there was a "Drop Bush Not Bombs" poster.
Of course, Fred Thompson's character was on the conservative side of the issue!

1. I didn't like the way they caricatured the protester |
|
blaming the troops, calling them 'murderers', etc.
I haven't seen any posters here at DU (who I didn't suspect were undercover freepers, trying to make us look bad) who blame the troops.
"Love the troops, hate those who sent them there" is the overwhelming message I hear at DU.

2. There have been a few...... |
|
If not outright blaming then expressing something much less than sympathy. Not a majority by any means, but to deny that there are people like that out there is also naive. I know more than a few myself.

3. Yeah, he wasn't a principled protester he was a privileged *sshole in the |
|
portrayal.
I was glad to see at least that the subject of opposition to Bush and the war was the subject of a primetime tv show anyways.

5. Have you ever watched 'The Practice'? |
|
I'll admit I'm a relative newcomer to this show but it seems they take a weekly jab at the mis-administrations policies/laws. Not so much the war,but the Patriot Act sure takes a drubbing.
Last Sunday Betty White's character, in an attempt to extort money as a murder witness, made the comment that "With this new Medicare I'll be in a pinch, so I gotta get the money from somewhere".

6. We don't blame the troops... |
|
but there are some who are under such stress and fear that the war theater is hell for everyone.
It's like Vietnam. The media blasted the protesters for being "unpatriotic" when they were right and trying to bring home the troops. They wanted the killing to stop.
1/3 of all homeless are Vietnam vets. Just outrageous that we would give tax cuts to rich Americans (some never served their counrty) instead of taking care of them.
It's a little different this time than Vietnam regarding the type of troops going off to combat. Reserve people some in the late 40s, etc. are too old for combat. Not only that but with Brown and Root and Halliburton, they aren't being cared for properly.
It is just terrible. I can't imagine their families panic about it all.As an American ciitzen, I'm outraged and have told my representatives this.

I can't stand most the plots on TV. I think....the writers have had too much stress since 2000.
