6. And to think this group parlayed ONE hit song into a television series... |
|
Does anyone remember this? It was on CBS. A summer replacement show "The Starland Vocal Band Comedy Hour" or something like that. It was dreadful beyond words.

13. Wow...I'd forgotten the infamous "Pink Lady and Jeff"... |
|
Two women who could barely speak English...a comedian who wasn't all that funny...
One of the worst disasters ever to appear on television.

14. What I think is even funnier is that somebady had to pitch the idea |
|
to the network execs...
I imagine it went something like this:
"Stay with me here, Mortie. We got these two cute gals, they're from Japan. Naaah, they don't speak much 'Engrish", but what the hey - they're cute. And we've got this comedian - with an act like he's straight outa the Catskills. The public will love this shit!"
How else could you sell that nasty-ass variety show? Think about it...

On the other hand, I'll ashamedly admit to knowing all the words to that song.

22. Bill Danoff still lives in DC... |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 01:14 PM by unidentifiedbassplay
At gigs I regularly deflect requests for "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by telling the requestor that Mr. Danoff is in the audience and will kick my a$$ if I play that tune.
He also part-owns a restaurant on McArthur Boulevard called the Starland Cafe, which I understand is pretty good.
