What Was Your First, And Last Concert?
Mine:
First: Metallica at the San Diego Sports Arena during the black album tour. A good show since it was before they really began to suck and their setlists started being diluted with the kind of junk they've been writing for the last 20 years. I went with my older sister, and as a fourteen year-old punk kid surrounded by a bunch of crazed, drunken metalheads, I recall being a bit intimidated.

Last: Gogol Bordello at the Mayan in Los Angeles. Quite possibly the best live band I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

I've seen them for Roll the Bones, Test for Echo and Snakes and Arrows.

Awesome all three times.

37. 1981 would have been Moving Pictures. Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, etc.
Unless it was very early 1981, which would be the tail end of their Permanent Waves album. Spirit of Radio, Natural Science...

You're lucky to have seen them then.

49. It was a good concert, but I wish I could have seen them a little
later; their first album had just come out and I had barely heard of them, nor Kansas either. We all went because Mahogany Rush was supposed to be on the bill, but they didn't show.

52. Queen's first album was great.
But they sure didn't really run amok until Sheer Heart Attack and a Night at the Opera.

I didn't even learn of Queen until after they'd stopped touring. Living in North Dakota and Alabama made it hard to find music back then.

4. How was the cure?
I saw them at the Greek in LA about five years ago during the Bloodflowers tour, which was awesome since they were playing most of the "trilogy" of Pornography, Disentegration and Bloodflowers followed by a strong 5 or 6 song encore, but I have to say I haven't been too impressed by their last album or what I've heard from this new one.

14. the cure show blew my mind
this is the third time i've seen them (also saw them on their two previous tours) and this was, by far, the best show i've ever seen them do. their last encore was all from boys don't cry...including 'killing an arab'

i saw them at red rocks and i think that is part of what made the show so amazing

Yeah, I know...I went to two Kiss shows. My first was the "Crazy Nights" tour in 1987, so it was the non-makeup, glam-ish Kiss. I really wanted to see Ace and Peter so I went to the reunion tour show.

33. The tours I've chosen of late are to make sure I don't miss a landmark band before they stop touring

So, Rush, Iron Maiden, the Misfits, and soon Judas Priest.

If Bob Dylan or one of the remaining Beatles comes within 500 miles, I'll see them too.

45. KISS 108 Concert / Redman
At the KISS concert, I got to see Kriss Kross, Marky Mark, and Right Said Fred. We left before James Brown.

My next concert years later is the one that formed my concert-going, moshing, crowd-surfing years: The Soul Assassins tour.

I have some great concert stories, including the time I almost died (or paralyzed) at the first River Rave (free show at the Hatch) and the time I literally thought I was going to die (free Green Day concert at the Hatch).

128. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it)
that was the only show I saw at the Centrum.. IIRC, I was 15, and my older sister got the tickets and had an extra, and i thought it would be cool to see Ratt, since I'm a guitarist and Warren DiMartini was a pretty good shredder (at the time).. but that was the last concert I wa able to go to until I moved out to Washington State a few years later.

in Fort Worth. I have seen BC several times.

Been to the Grand Ole Opry many times, which is like a concert. Saw a couple of fantastic Bluegrass concerts in Nashville, Neil YOung at a small outdoor venue in Indiana, Pink Martini here in FW, Paul Revere and the Raiders at Mayfest one year.

I have only gone to one of what you would call a huge big name concert: a couple of years ago my daughter and one of her friends talked me into going to Willie Nelson's July 4 party up at BillyBob's and we had an excellent time. That I would do again.

Otherwise, I don't do those big event things; for the money, I'd really rather see a good play

Edited on Sat May-31-08 11:22 PM by kwassa
opening act was Blood, Sweat, and Tears

1968???? Rock was such small business back then that the hall seating 13,000 was only one-third full. After Woodstock, everything changed.

Last concert was the Kennedy Center Opera, "View from the Bridge", if that qualifies. Last 10 concerts were operas.

I haven't paid to see a rock group in almost 25 years. Last memorable concert was Talking Heads at the Greek in '83, and Los Lobos at the Pantages, about the same time.

103. John Stamos was in the Beach Boys for a while as the drummer
He also produced the made for TV movie "the beach boys-an american family". I think he wanted to be Dennis Wilson.

The original BB members that are left are Bruce Johnston and Mike Love. The band took a big hit when Brian couldn't tour anymore, then when Dennis died another hit, when Carl Wilson died that was the end of the band IMHO.

102. I don't remember exactly
I think the first was David Lee Roth. I was 11 or 12, and I won a "sing like David Lee Roth" radio show call in contest. That was in '90 or '91.

I don't know for sure what the last was.... I go to see concerts almost every week, but they're usually classical music, with different groups/perfomers/composers, so I don't know how to even mention them. I saw Gowns play last year, and they completely blew my mind - they've got to be just about the greatest rock band around at the moment. I also recently saw Fred Frith, if that counts. It was more of a rock oriented thing than he's been doing for the last several years, but it wasn't very good - nothing like Henry Cow or Massacre (his two excellent rock bands).

116. Rush
Technically speaking, it would be a couple of Boston bands that played at the local fairgrounds during the annual fair in 1982. The Jon Butcher Axis (a hard rock band that released a couple of major label albums) and The Fools (a goofy bar band with a big following), plus some others I've since forgotten.

The first "real" concert was Rush at the Worcester Centrum (now the DCU Center) on the Signals tour. Rory Gallagher opened.

I can remember a few shows that I missed (Snow Patrol, The Cure, Pogues) this year, but I think the last concert was, and I kid you not, Reba McEntire. My wife loves Reba, so she talked my brother into scoring some tickets to her show at Meadowbrook Pavilion last summer. Not my thing, but Mrs. BlueDog was happy, and that's what counted.

the local college (U of Maine at Farmington) booked out of Boston to play for their Earth Day festivities in the Spring of '72. They rocked out hard on the tennis court between the Scott South and Scott North dorms for an afternoon crowd of maybe 500 students, faculty, employees, and twelve year old me. Next January their first album, Aerosmith, was released.

122. Hard to say

Depends how you define 'concert,' I guess, because I saw a lot of different people sing at various venues when I was a kid (Ivan Rebroff, the German Russian singer, a bunch of other world-folk types, various unknown singers in parks and other free venues, performers at record-industry events and the like, etc, etc, etc). Similarly, here in Las Vegas I see a lot of performers who work casino lounges, many of them extremely talented. The last stadium show I saw was Paul McCartney, in late 2005, and I saw The Knack play here a while back in a smaller showroom.
