1. i have way too many favorites to post but i love Alien, zombie movies, 28 days later
and a whole slew of the newer asian horror flicks, Infection, The grudge, The Host and so on. The american versions of those films are ok but i think the originals are much better.

2. What's your take on the Japanese psych-horror genre in general?
I recently saw The Eye, and I'm sorry to say that it was one of the most boring films I've ever viewed.

Granted, it was kind of a shot in the dark, and I haven't done much research into the genre, but The Eye was billed as being "in the style of" Ringu.

4. i don't think it was very good compared to some of the other movies i've seen

Infection scared me shitless, i couldn't sleep one night so i ended watching that at around 2:00am and no one was home. I really liked "The host" i know some people thought it sucked but i enjoyed it and the humor in it. Another good one was the wishing stairs, your standard Korean girls boarding school scare flick.

5. Cool--thanks for the suggestions. One question:
Edited on Sat May-31-08 10:34 PM by Orrex
Is "homor" a typo of "humor" or "horror?"

And I ask this as one who made a real stinker of a typo in a post earlier today...

any the wishing stairs is scary stuff, i'm totally hooked on those films, they almost never disappoint. there was a movie on i think ifc that was 3 tales and they were scary but they were also really, really gross, when i can find the name i'll pm it you, also Sundance has a good selection.

6. From what I've seen
I wouldn't say they're so scary, so terrifying, that make you jump out of your chair... still, I appreciate them. I like how the mood builds throughout, kind of tense and foreboding. Especially I think of "Ringu" and "Dark Water" (original Japanese).

I would say quite as much about "A Tale of Two Sisters," a Korean production. I love it, one of the classier films I've been exposed to. Also some fine performances and one of my favourite soundtracks, really beautiful.

9. oh yes, the original Dark Water was really good, i thought the american version just sucked.
i bought "Ringu" last year and i've watched it at least times and loaned it out many times over.
