2. My dear adsosletter!
It looks like a bovine take-off on the photo of Marilyn Monroe and her skirt getting blown up by a blast of air!

Weird...

Why...and who, would choose to reinterpret her as a COW?

:hi:

4. Mooooooooooooooove over, Marilyn!

Perhaps the cow is being reinterpreted as Marilyn, instead of the other way around. :7

8. It's a long story Peg...
...involving Napa Valley politics, land use, gentrification, etc.

Bottom line is:

There was a place in Oakville that wanted to tear-down their old building and put up something different. Another local business complained that, among other concerns, the new plans were going to create an eyesore...much litigation and political merriment ensued...in the end the redevelopment was not allowed by the county...so the aggrieved owners put this...cow...up on the corner of the property, right next to Highway 29, and facing the establishment of the people who raised the original complaint...which is located diagonally across the highway (2 lanes).

Oakville has about 500 people, and is on one of two roads leading into the upper valley from Napa...so everyone going by sees this...uh...artwork...designed specifically as an "in-your-face" to the "neighbors" I do believe... :D

10. Thank you for telling me this great story!
It explains a lot!

And what a cool moooooooooooove (sorry, I could not resist!) on the part of the folks who were denied their new building!

22. well, it started as a hunt for the original Marilyn Moonroe which I
KNEW I had seen for sale as a figurine representing one of the original Parade of Cows

Then I found one I thought the Lounge would LOL over

then I found another one...

then I found the COWBELLE and HAD to post that one, and then

I found Marilyn.

The Parade of Cows website is really neat. We have a figurine of the Starry NIght cow.

Then, there is also the Trail of the Painted Ponies. Both of these were such clever and entertaining examples of public art

17. I Knew I had seen the figurine of this cow. She was originally in Houston
see the link to her below, and do check out the Parade of cows for some fun. This started in Chicago and has spread all over the world.

There is horse version called "Trail of the Painted Ponies" too. I love the giant cows, bulls, horses ,etc. especially the ones with atrocious puns in the titles LOL
Fort Worth did a series of longhorn bulls, which are scattered about the town here and there.
