Who the hell puts June 1st on a Sunday?!
Grrrrr!

I just went downtown with the bf for pizza. We were sitting on the patio, and he's looking around at the passersby, and asks me "Does it seem gayer than usual to you down here?"

I looked around and had to agree. Then I asked him "what's today's date?".

"june 1st"

"Son of a bitch! Today was the Pride Parade! It's always the first Sunday in June!"

Goddammit! I've never missed the pride parade in the 10 years I've lived here. But half the country doesn't even know it's June yet - how they can have a parade? New rule - if the first Sunday in June is the 1st, the Parade falls on the 2nd Sunday in June. Grrrr....

1. Fuckin' Yahweh.
Son of a bitch.

Our Pride isn't for 2 weeks still, because my city is not in His jurisdiction.

2. Tomorrow the LifeCycle AIDS Riders come through town, too
Today was Day 1 of the week-long ride. SF to LA in a week. Tonite they're camping out at Harvey West park. I did that same ride 8 yrs ago. It was incredibly inspirational and we raised $11.25 million for AIDS services.

I'm planning to go plant myself on a street corner somewhere early after the kids leave for school and cheer some of the riders out of town, as they continue on their way down the coast.

:woohoo:

6. Yeah
almost every place in the world does it later in June. For some strange reason, our little town is always early.

Strangely, Monterey, 45 miles away, usually has theirs in mid-July.

5. Amsterdam's gay pride parade is in early August.
Or at least it was last year. I happened to be in Amsterdam that day. Now THAT was one hell of a party!

7. Actually, in my opinion
The Pride Parade should fall, everywhere, on the last weekend in June. That's when, and correct me if I'm wrong, Stonewall actually happened in 1969...the last weekend of June.

Terry, being a completely anal bitch in your post.

8. I agree!
The problem around here is they try to stagger them so people can attend them all. We have San Francisco (the big one), San Jose, Santa Cruz and Monterey. They're all on different weekends.

Plus, a lot of the same marchers are in multiple parades. Our little tiny Pride always has a few groups from S.F. I guess it's a "warmup" for the big event.

But damn, I'm mad I missed it. I love our little parade. It's tiny, lasts about 25 minutes - with some long breaks in it - but half the town turns out to cheer. And with my back still fucked up, there's no way I could go to San Francisco's this year. Even in perfect health, that's the fucking marathon of pride parades.
