KCAL 9 News: Los Angeles commuters are more stressed out than drivers in other big cities. |
|
No DUH!
:eyes:
Nothing like our local news media having their finger directly on the pulse of the obvious.

1. How would they measure this? |
|
Number of road-rage shootings using Italian-made automatic weapons per 100,000 silver BMW 530i's on a 1/4-mile stretch of I-405 weekdays at 5:26 p.m.?

Interesting. Do wonder how they measured that, though.
Also, not entirely sure it's true. Ever been in Manhattan at rush hour?? :scared:

Then again, I wouldn't attempt to LIVE there either.
I can see the draw, I love visiting, but...yeah, just not for me.

I've handled LA, SF, DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and a few other biggies at rush hour. The idea of driving in Manhattan at ANY hours makes me wanna break out in hives. That's why god created cabs.

11. They've got cell phones, TVs and PSPs - why would they be stressed? |
|
There're plenty of things to do that relieve the tedium of driving...

12. If there's any place worse than Houston ... |
|
I don't want to be there.
I spent most of my life (about 30 years) living in a town where what was called a traffic jam took place when more than five cars got lined up behind a flashing red light.
I now spend 1 1/2 hours driving home from work, covering the same distance I did in that other town in about 15 minutes.
I drove through LA once ... on Sunday ... at about 3 in the afternoon. Wasn't a picnic then. I don't want to imagine rush "hour."

13. Invariably, I am either 1/2 hour early or 20 minutes late to things when I have to use the freeway |
|
It is so difficult to predict.

And I have to use the freeway every day. The alternate routes are just as clogged as the freeway and longer in distance.
I got really spoiled by my home town, so much so that I don't know if I could ever get accustomed to this. (Hell, with the oil situation, I may not have to.) I left for work back home 10 minutes before I was supposed to be there, and the only reason I was ever late was because I overslept or something and left for work some time after those ten minutes.
Even the years I was in OKC, I left for work the same time every day and only occasionally ran into something that caused me to be late, usually something having to do with a wreck on the freeway that diverted traffic to the street I took to work. But even then, it was like 5 - 10 minutes at the most.
And I also never truly experienced the extremes of lower gas mileage in the city until now ... all that waiting and rolling along at 5 mph.

The hands free cell phone law is going to make those who had to buy new headsets peeved. Of course, they won't be nearly as irritated as those who didn't get around to it.

The few times I've been there, they all seem to drive like they've seen "The Road Warrior" too many times.
