Poll question: Favorite George Romero movie
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 12:07 PM by charlie and algernon
I just saw his fifth "of the dead" movie, Diary of the Dead, Saturday and I really enjoyed it. It takes place at the same time as NOTLD if night was in present day. It's done the same way as Cloverfield where everything is seen through the eyes of a handheld camera, but Romero cheats by having two characters hold different cameras, so you go back and forth between them as though it were edited professionally. It works though and it's far less annoying than Cloverfield. It's also a bigger area as they travel from Pittsburgh to Scranton to Philadelphia, PA, encountering zombies every step of the way. But for those fans of Romero's movies, what's your favorite?

1. I haven't seen Diary yet!
And I'm usually proud of being on top of zombie stuff.. I need to get with it!

I have to vote for Dawn, the old movie and the new one, they're both great.

3. Diary is classic Romero
he's back to the dull slow moving zombies as opposed to the fast ones in the Dawn remake. It also only took him 23 days and a budget under a million dollars to make it. It'd be nice though, since he loves PA if he actually filmed in PA and not Canada. At least M. Night Shamalayn actually films his movies in Pennsylvania where they take place.

5. Night of the Living Dead, Martin, Dawn of the Dead, in that order.
How can anyone say different?

NOLD came out of nowhere and will still make you wet your pants.

Martin is an amazing original film w ith great performances that deserves more attention than it gets.

DOTD delivered against all odds as a sequel, breaking new grounds in terms of gore apocalyptic vision, and fusing horror with comedic moments.

7. Glad someone else mentioned "Martin"
I absolutely LOVED that movie when i first saw it... such an unconventional angle for a 'vampire' flick!\

Romero is still a god among filmmakers.

10. I love "Martin," in part because "Tada Cuda"...
...was played by Lincoln Maazel, who was my piano teacher when I was a kid in Pittsburgh. Came to our house every week to teach me, my brother and sister. Seriously. He was one of the most interesting cats you could meet in Pittsburgh in the late '70s.

I'm actually torn between "Night of..." and "Dawn of..." Both are genius. I think the latter is a more fully realized version of Romero's vision, but the the former is a bare-bones classic that will probably never be duplicated.

11. I don't think he ever fulfilled the promise he gave us a glimpse of in his early films.
I feel the same way about Tobe Hooper. Both guys are great filmmakers, though. And they have made classics. Cannot take that away.

9. The first NOTLD (1968) is a milestone film.
All the others are just derivatives.
