How about some hoax reminiscing?
It appears that the post about Hillary conceding tomorrow, that is on the front page, may be a hoax. Already, several other sites have linked to it, even though it is unverifiable at this point. It's amazing how things spread.

It got me wondering about other cases like this. Does anyone remember any big-deal hoaxes like this from the past? Either posted here or elsewhere?

All Things Considered, i was fascinated, and as they went through the sounds, each one getting a little more outlandish, i thought, "how does he do that, i mean, can vocal chords make that sound?" :dunce: then came the train and i was like :wtf: i fell for that!

10. It originated
with Truthout. The author, Jason Leopold, used to post here. Another writer for their site prominently defended the article here. Then he swore at people.

12. Oh yes, Jason Leopold
Was that last fall (2007)? I remember all the back and forth. They really tried to defend it. First it was 24 hours, then 24 business hours, but nothing ever happened. Maybe it was supposed to be 24 months? ;)

That's hilarious. I can see Buck Henry doing that. It sounds just like him. I'm going to check out that site a bit more, too.

BTW, thanks for confirming my strongly held belief that at 48 years, I am not yet middle-aged.

21. Wasn't there some erroneous report about Angelina Jolie giving birth yesterday?
Although, in this day and age, it's almost hard to tell what's hoax and what's simply mis-information.

(Not that Jolie giving birth is actually information.)

23. Anyone remember when Katherine Harris was killed in a plane crash in Canada.
That one actually started in some Australian newspaper, but DU discovered the article and went to town. We even had posters calling her office and getting startled responses like "I don't think that's true," and then having the answers parsed here in detail.

It was finally debunked. Real plane crash, no Katherine Harris.

26. I think it had some other connection.
I don't remember all the details, but the plane was a small charter, with ten people or so. I think the charter service was connected to Harris somehow, and there was some coincidence, like she was due someplace the plane was going, or she had cancelled an appearance and was out of the public eye during that time. Something like that. I remember researchers here digging up something relating the plane's company to Harris.

Also, the Australian source that reported the story was flaky. There were a couple of stories they had gotten wrong, in that dramatic fashion. Like Drudge.
