Seeing this in black and white really disgusts me. I live among these vile, hateful people.
So much for "liberal California."

3. yeah. I hate news polls. |
|
Our local news has a poll every night. Tonight it was "Should Kennedy's wife take over his Senate seat?"
I'm thinking, who cares what the viewers think? It's not going to make any difference!
But the gay marriage thing is a really hard one to see.

4. When I was city editor there, we had thoughtful polls |
|
I wouldn't sit still for pulling answers out of one's ass or bible.
And, yeah — it makes me sick to see what my "neighbors" think. I can't wait to get the fuck out of this dogforsaken town and over to liberal Santa Cruz.

20. I was thinking about this more today. You know, polls are just simply divisive. |
|
Most issues are so much more complex than an "up or down" vote and polls like the one you posted an the ones I commented on don't do anything to add to the debate except get people more pissed off.

Wish I could remember some of the poll questions I came up with, but I always tried to word them to make people think beyond the headlines, since that's all most of them read.
Sometime in the '80s, newspapers started to become noticeably less about educating readers and more about simply repeating what was said by others, with decreasing effort toward analysis of it. Seemed like I was constantly fighting that, but with owners stripping away resources, it was an uphill battle.

9. That bar fight story on the front page is creepy: |
|
"Also with this story, a video tour of the victim's last minutes of life." :wtf:
(I added my $0.02 to the poll, of course...)

It's crap — a camera pointing at what they say are blood stains on the ground. :eyes:
Makes me want to e-mail my former employer, "Are you trying to be a crappy newspaper or a crappier teevee station?"

If I should run into the editor (a kid from Milwaukee), maybe I'll fess up.
And maybe I won't.

15. Sorry, but I think these vanity polls for a newspaper or an Internet poll are stupid. |
|
I do appreciate the support and meaning behind the effort, but it doesn't mean a damned bit of difference.
