prescription rant
My doctor prescribed an antibiotic for 14 days, 1 tablet twice a day for a total of 28 pills and it cost me $101. My insurance company covers a 30 day supply at one a day, for a total of 30 pills and it costs $75. I'm getting 2 fewer pills and paying 25 more. The clerk at the insurance company couldn't understand why I didn't understand that. She kept telling me I was taking more pills so of course it cost more. Am I missing out on some key piece of logic that says 28 pills should cost $26 more than 30 pills of the exact same fucking thing?

1. Are the mg's (dosages the same?)
I'm thinking thats the difference between a script for once a day versus twice a day.

2. yup, 400 mg #30 tablets is supposed to be $75
The person and the insurance company didn't understand why I didn't understand. I had someone pick this up at the pharmacy for me, if I had picked it up I would have made my doctor call in something cheaper. This is literally the difference between having money for groceries or not between now and Monday. It's so frustrating.

3. I'm sorry you have to deal with this
Drug pricing is crazy. AND I hate the arbitrary way the insurance comapanies choose what they will and will not pay for..I've got to see how much of the $1,200 I paid out of pocket for meds my damned insurance compancy will pay for now that I've won my appeal. But I'm not quite in the same boat you are. If you need more antibiotics, mention this idiocy to your docs, I've found some doctors are quite helpful in finding better monetary value in your scripts if you talk to them about it.
