Deep 13 appreciation thread: He gave me $500 to buy my meds...
And I don't want him to go. And I wanted all you people who were mocking him, to understand what a big huge loss for DU this will be if indeed he does leave.
Stay Russell!! You are awesome!!

1. He is supremely kind to do that. This isn't a door/hit ass kinda thing.
It will be a huge loss for DU if he actually does leave.

And, I say this as someone who disagrees with him completely and utterly on issues of faith.

5. Kudos to him for a good deed
I expect public recognition isn't his goal and perhaps a bit awkward for him but if I hear of a good deed by someone I'm going to encourage that behavior! ;)

To heck with embarrassment.

embody what this site should be all about.

It doesn't matter which candidate you support, etc.

Please reconsider..it would be a tremendous loss if you left.

But, I'll vote for the Democratic candidate in the GE and I think he will as well.

33. For me as well
I quietly fumed for a day or two when each dropped out, then picked up the pieces and moved on. I suspect the problem now is that with only two left in the race it was much easier to concentrate criticism on one's opponent. There's been some pretty rancorous rhetoric from supporters of both candidates. I just hope that when we all cool down, there won't have been too many casualties.

"i'm putting someone on ignore thread". If you want to leave or put someone on ignore, just do it.

18. By why does he have to leave? What exactly is the deal about after the nominee is decided?
We're not allowed to criticize the Democratic nominee? Or does Deep13 just feel like he can't get behind Obama at all?

Or has it become THAT bad in GD-P? That the Obama supporters think somehow the rest of us should just drop off the face of DU?

28. Yes there are some rules about supporting the nominees
Criticism is valid but I guess that if you go too far, you can be banned.

Personally I have no intention of voting for Obama. I wasn't going to vote for Clinton either. I live in Texas, where my vote does not actually count anyway, so it's not like it matters what I do. I just simply won't say (type) what I really think about Obama and the Democratic Party in general. I do hate the Republicans more but that's not saying much. I just feel like the Democratic Party has become too corporate and Obama will not change things. I just feel a complete disconnect and entirely unwanted due to my progressive values. But I think there are way of skirting the rules. Staying out of GDP probably will help. Nobody really has to leave- it is possible to avoid talking much about politics at this site.

13. Horrible things are causing good people to leave this place...
From what i know of him, Deep13 is one of those genuine good souls that comes along rarely (though this place surely overflows with 'angels', as i have witnessed countless times since i came here), and i think we all hope that he just needs a 'getting away' period, and that this is not a true farewell for him.

Hopefully he'll see this, and realize that there are a lot of people here who wish he'd reconsider and stay...

29. What a kind thing he did for you-I hope he doesn't leave
I'm truly sorry if he was insulted or demeaned. I'm trying hard to look at this as a long, hard fought race that has really inflamed people's passions on both sides.

I have seen people say things in the heat of the moment on DU that were very mean and insensitive, but I'm hoping that as the process winds down we can still come together as a party. Maybe not today, not even in a week or two, but time will go on and things will change.

We are all still Democrats and we all want a progressive voice in the White House. I hope your friend will come back after things get better if he does leave. Good wishes and peace to both of you.

34. Why do you think that's the case?
I have a theory that is probably totally inaccurate, but here goes. When I ventured into GD-P a few months ago, I felt like there were a lot of new people who joined DU because they were really, really excited about Obama. Not that that's a bad thing. But I think they missed something in that they weren't hear long enough to get a feel for this place and some of their zest turned into zealotry. And I think a lot of people who've been around and who had a lot of questions about Obama were branded as Hilbots. Not that there weren't HRC supports who had their "moments" as well.

Maybe it's something we'll never figure out. Maybe it's some great shift in politics and the culture in general with results that remain to be seen.

Or, maybe I just over analyze EVERYTHING!

I tend to stick to Skepticism, R&T, Atheism, and Health these days. Now that the primary is over i'll probably spend a little time in GD.

I also recently took about 9 months away from DU altogether. Sometimes a break really makes a huge difference.

40. Anyone that would give you $500 for meds, is a very special person
The world could do for more people like that. Still the whole, "I am leaving thing" was was overly dramatic and not very cool. I would be happy to see him stay, but I am not going to call out people that have little tolerance for that sort of behavior. I feel the odds are very good he will be back either with that name, or a new one. People may get angry and act irrationally, but sooner or later they return to their senses. I am sure he is going to find DU is a big part of his life, and not soemthing he wants to give up.

I am British and was never really into the primaries; I normally only comment on GD:P if it's an anti-McCain thread.

So I'm not too sure what's been happening with you there.
