Hello DU

I have no idea if I'm doing this right, or in the right place.

I guess I'll explain.

I have been coming to DU since 2004. I did not get the nerve to join until a year or so ago, and only posted a few times until recently. I love it here. I don't care how much things may be chaotic or volatile here, you guys have always made me laugh my ass off. The fact that everyone loves to debunk each other is great because it shows that info here can be so much more reliable than any other traditional source for news. It's a strange new era where we have the tools to keep our appointed leaders in check with the click of our mouse. I appreciate what you all do.

I thought for the longest time that me and two close friends of mine were the only people left in this world that hadn't completely lost their minds. When I found this site I became overwhelmingly excited, and realized there may be hope for our country yet.

Now i sit here trying to figure out how the hell I get started. When I say start I mean that I have had so much on mind about everything going on around us, and I'm tired of the decay taking place - not just here but all over the world. I hope this to be the first of many posts, granted they may be mostly opinion pieces probably. Unfortunately - as well as others here - I work full time, I am a f/t college student, and I am married with 2 kids (3 and 4 yrs old, boy and girl respectively). I have enjoyed my time just reading everything at DU, which I have only been able to by jumping in every time I get five seconds at work, or in the middle of the night after class. In other words, I'm still trying to figure out how to balance all of this. I can't sit back in the shadows and just read any more. I have to contribute in some way, even if I am just rambling about shit that pisses me off.

Basically, at this point, I'm hoping to make a difference, or at least open up a handful of minds to the odd little universe I've accidentally created for myself.

I think that's it for now. I hope to have something a little more entertaining the next time around.

Seriously, it's great to have you here. Same story with me. In the awful months after the Inauguration, and the terrible years after 9/11, this place gave me a safe haven of rationality and true love of country that had seemed to be diminishing in an atmosphere of hatred, fear, violence, racism and fevered, rabid nationalism. This place saved me from going crazy.
