My first day at Wal-Mart.
So far during my orientation, I went to a meeting which was cult-like, watched an anti-union video, and watched a video on why Wal-Mart is so great (also bashing unions).

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I hate to post and run, but my break is almost over.

Now to begin Phase Two: bringing them down from the inside.

6. I have a suggestion...
every time it gets to you, just think of one more horrible thing you can do on your last day, or when you've found something better and you wouldn't mind getting fired. :P

7. I once witnessed an 8 AM "pep rally" at a local KMart
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 02:22 PM by Orrex
It was much creepier and more cult-like than the two hours I once spent talking with a cleared "counselor" at the Austin Church of Scientology.

If your Wal*Mart orientation is anything like that, then you have my deepest sympathy.

It involved a lot of clapping and foot stomping and spelling out the name of the store. :scared:

18. Take lots of field notes
then make up a bunch of shit that sounds even more appalling to add in, and write a sizzling tell-all, off of which proceeds you can then retire young. ;)

Reminds me of the job I had at a cannery. That scintillating film about Your Friend The Conveyor Belt still floats through my dreams occasionally....

will the profits trickle down?

Good luck; I've heard horror stories from people who've worked there.

26. she knows the horrors, and the brighter side
of things...the field, is a lot different than the corporate hq...if you ever need any guidance/help with fucked up shit at the store, don't be afraid to hit my pm box, my wife can push through a lot of red tape to get shit dealt with.

The horror stories, she has told me of the field stores, are pretty damn bad....

29. My sister works at Wal-Mart.
She is retired but needs to work until her husband can start to collect SS at 65.

She is counting the days.

She just hates working there but without a extra car she needs a place where she can walk to work.

32. I used to work for Ames. Their training videos were hilariously outdated and entertaining.
When they were closing for good, I asked to get one of the training videos as a souvenir, but they wouldn't give me one.
Working retail isn't so bad, I never worked a register, just one the floor, and for the most part, I enjoyed it. It's hard work sometimes, the pay sucks, but hey, you get to laugh at dumb rednecks and city fuckwits behind their backs, and your coworkers are almost always social rejects.
