And it didn't even have anything to do with any of the candidates.

The saddest thing was, I didn't vote for either Obama or Clinton (rather Edwards), but I liked them both (and still do), but I still got caught up in that vortex of crap.

9. "caught up in that vortex of crap"
That perfectly defines most of GD:PP!!!

I like both of them (all three) and just couldn't stand what was going on over there. And it just sucks you in, because you just wanted to smack some sense into some of them (all sides). But you can't because as you said, you'll get sucked up into that vortex of crap!

Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 02:28 PM by MrsGrumpy
People who think it's fun to post covert threads and responses.

People who accuse others of the very same thing they practice, almost daily, almost with every response they type.

Life sucks enough without people turning a message board into a dramatic soap opera.

And...when people "surmise" things about my daughter and then don't come clean when questioned about it.

I just thought the poster would have enough sense not to. That, sadly, wasn't the case. I got upset, considered the source (one who is often known for stupid, almost freeperish comments) and moved on. I hope he/she made good on their ignored "threat". Somehow, I doubt it because they live for this stuff. A sad thing, really.

there are always hateful shitheads who think we in louisiana should have just drilled for our oil, refined the oil, and contributed all the other great things we contributed to this country, yet we should just lay down and die or be drowned instead of being helped after the storm

you don't expect to see people like that on DU but i guess the haters are everywhere in this world

a lot of them were from the midwest where they assumed they were insulated from disaster and it does not make me feel happy that sometimes, when i hear of all these awful tornadoes, i wish them on those who wanted us abandoned but i guess it's human nature

Well - I have been crying a lot this afternoon about the poor calico kitten who died.

I had to leave Smirking Chimp because all the hate and prejudice towards young people, women, and people from the South eventually got to me - being a young Southern woman.

It's not so bad on DU, though - yeah, the prejudice is there but people generally get called out on it. I think the classism gets to me the most on here.

Once I started a thread that went crazy, with deleted posts, some towards me. I took it personally.

Then, I realized internet discussion are different from face to face reality. From time to time I say something I regret, and I let the poster know that I was in the passion of a moment.

70. Yeah, I don't remember the thread subject
but I think it was in GD and in recent months. I mentioned how living through my previous' wife's PMS episodes left me very hurt emotionally, too, and I was called a mysogynist. Unfortunately, I only vaguely knew the meaning of the term, had to look it up, but by then the thread was either locked or out of date for posting.

I had wanted to reply that it's not just the women that get their feelings majorly hurt during those times. My wife said some pretty nasty, hateful things to me. I knew it was tearing her up inside to say them and we always made up after. But it was still hell to go through, for both of us.

Thus, my being called a woman-hater.
That would be news to my NZ girlfriend! :P

71. You'll appreciated this (or your wife will):
This is an actual letter from an Austin woman sent to American company Proctor and Gamble regarding their feminine products. PC Magazine's 2007 editors' choice for best webmail-award-winning letter....

Dear Mr. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your 'Always' maxi pads for over 20 years and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the Leak Guard Core or Dri-Weave absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever suffered from the curse'? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my time of the month is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call 'an inbred hillbilly with knife skills. Isn't the human body amazing?

As Brand Manager in the Feminine-Hygiene Division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers monthly visits from 'Aunt Flo'. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behavior . You surely realize it's a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend's testicles into a George Foreman Grill just because he told her he thought Grey's Anatomy was written by drunken chimps. Crazy!

The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants... Which brings me to the reason for my letter. Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: 'Have a Happy Period.'

Are you fu*ing kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness -- actual smiling, laughing happiness is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be anything 'happy' about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreen's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like 'Put down the Hammer' or 'Vehicular Manslaughter is Wrong', or are you just picking on us?

Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flexi-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullshit. And that's a promise I will keep. Always....

Best,
Wendi Aarons
Austin , TX

73. OMFG!!!1!!!

As I was reading, I thought I'd send this to her (and some other female friends) with the subject heading of "an inbred hillbilly with knife skills". Then I read "Have A Happy Period".

Thanks for that :)
I tell ya, DU is really the best place I've come across for true Laugh Out LOUD guffaws! ;) And this was certainly one of them. I'll be forwarding this around :)

76. So glad that I could help inject a little humor into the situation
I've been knocking back some Three Olives vodka for the past few hours in an effort to curb my urge to head on down to the local Walgreens with a pickax (don't own a hunting rifle), so I can safely say that Wendi Aarons speaks for many of us.

Just remember; it's not you, it's not her, it's those f*cking hormones! There aren't many good things about growing older, but one of them must be being a post menopausal woman who ceases to act like an inbred hillbilly with knife skills for a few days out of every month. It really is awful when you KNOW that what's about to come out of your mouth is awful, rude, and unfair-but it's like Tourettes syndrome or temporary insanity; pretty unavoidable. Hang in there!

77. ROTFLOL!
That's hilarious!

I had a partial hyster in my 30's due to uterine cancer, but I can still relate!

And, OMFG!, my hormones went WILD for about a year after that!

but someone who persists in posting lies that they try to act as if they aren't calling someone out with, I've gotten angry about that until I realized they were nothing in my life and I became indifferent to them. :D

The fat threads do that to me. Sometimes I have to stop myself from reading them just so that I don't walk around for the next two days loathing myself and hating my fellow human beings.

but I've occasionally been seriously annoyed or shocked at certain views expressed (usually it's one or another form of xenophobia that gets me; or people implying that it's immoral to use 'conventional' medicine); or at certain sites that people have linked to. I think the most extreme case in my 4 years on the board was someone trying to defend Hitler - I think that one *did* get TS'd.

just nonplussed that some really hateful, small spirited persons here who smell like reagan democrats seem to be some of the most admired people by a coterie of cannibalistic suburbanoid underground dwellers.

That was the first poster I put on ignore.

Since then, I don't get as upset about responses. If somebody responds in a way that pisses you off, it's possible they misread your post or didn't understand it. It's also possible they are off their meds.

98. Only once that I can remember
Usually I'm able to take most of the things that might be considered to be hurtful here with a grain of salt. However, a while back there was a "discussion" that turned into pretty much an all-out flame war, and several posters I like and respect very much said some things that truly shocked me - basically saying that certain people should be put to death because of their beliefs. Needless to say, that was pretty upsetting, and I actually ended up taking a break from DU for a little while after that. Most of the time it's cool, though. :hi:

:hi: I'm doing well - had a migraine for most of the day today, which was not fun, but other than that things have been going all right. Still trying to find a job and get housing stuff sorted out, which is why I haven't been on DU much lately, but all in all, life is pretty good. :) I saw your other thread about the health stuff and I am so glad things finally seem to be looking up for you! :hi: Man, it's good to be back here with all the cool kids again. ;)

102. One time I stepped in it and pointed out that the wife of an insurgent didn't
need sympathy while her husband was blowing up people. That surprised/shocked the OP and a few others. So I let them release all the "tension" all over me for an hour or two. That was the only time I was really piled on.

When Katrina hit and the Pentagon started making pity plays and how they were so offput by the whole affair - it was that night that Nagin begged - well I went off and spend the rest of the night screaming ASSHOLES. The whole world was thinking and reacting the same way. Cruelty is cruelty. And the Bush WH was cruel at that juncture. Trying to play down any sympathy those people in New Orleans should have while they were busy drowning.

I did some Darfur posting for a few weeks. I tried to read up on the junjadaweed but it was too awful and made me depressed and I dropped my participate after a few weeks.

I've avoided the GD:P for the last few months because of how cantankerous it was. I don't like my posse (the DU) fighting amongst itself like that.
