I have gotten a job. A good one. Thanks, DU, for being there. |
|
After 25 years of hard work and overeducation (believe me - a lot); raising a family, paying my taxes, doing it all the right way - I was unemployed as of August 2001. No problem, I said: I had a great rep, solid and sustained work history, had always been hired after just one interview. Well, not under GWB. I am one of those white collar workers whose lives were crushed after 9/11. But now, I have been hired for a very good job, effective March 1, and am grateful. It's almost a miracle. Many out there will find no miracles. I know that, and won't ever forget, and neither should you. I can't tell you how much I appreciate DU through this period, and all of you out there. We will fight back; dammit, I am in my 50s, and I remember; learn your history and let's pull together. A check to DU will be forthcoming. Thanks to all.

Given that very nice avatar, (You Rock), might it be Rock 'n Rye? Many thanks. Let's now support the others here who were in my shoes.

9. Thank you so much. I hope you do, too. |

I had given up hope, but I have landed something in my field that I have had 20 years of success with. Be of good cheer; if I could do it, anyone can. Best wishes!

You're showing the value of persistence. Nice to include DU in the good news!

26. It's not persistence. Others have been more persistent. |
|
Thank you, but I am sure others worked even harder, to no avail, and have judged themselves harshly, as I have. Sometimes it's dumb luck. Is that the criteria we want to judge ourselves on? Lots of Good People out of work here who have tried so very hard. Again, thanks for your post, but persistence is a quality so many have shown - to no avail. If persistence constituted all, I would not see the heartbreaking posts here on this subject. Again, thanks, but I hope you get my point. Yeah, it's good news, but I have learned something I will never forget.

19. Thanks, but don't call me "sir." I am still young, at least in my mind. |
|
Like most males, I stopped at 11, and will never get older (OK, 52 chronological years). But, still remember dime comic books, nickel baseball cards, building forts, 12 inch black and white TVs with rabbit ears and when nobody even heard of soccer, but we all played baseball, got dirty, went home when the street lights came on, and watched Mr. Ed. Thanks for the response.

17 was great, too. Still closer to 11, here. Too many hormones at 17 (some of which were just great; all of which were problematic). I refuse to grow up, too, and just ask my 27 year old daughter! ("Oh, Dad. . . "). Still hope to embarass her in public, but tough to do anymore. But, what are Dads for?

25. Nah. She was a sweetie then. It's God's Reward. . . |
|
for surviving the teen years. Actually, I love her unconditionally, and always have. I miss her terribly; she lives in Tampa now, and I am in the Midwest. The price we pay for getting old, I guess. Even when we are still 11, or 17, as we most assuredly remain.
