Got a second interview but I have a concern about process |
|
My interview went decently. My potential new boss seemed to like me. I was called back for a second interview. I am concerned though about the interview process. If the second interview goes well, I will be subjected to a psychological evaluation administered by a psychiatrist. This concerns me a little bit. My husband said that he would not subject himself to that, that health including mental health should be none of their business. Is this sort of thing normal?

1. Maybe the mention of a psych test is a test |
|
Meaning- if you explode and refuse to take it, you've failed and don't get the job.
However, if you do sit down to take it, but take a stand and refuse to answer personal questions, you do get the job.

2. I would not do it since I have mental health issues |
|
Most of us do but either don't know it or don't admit it. Mental health is still a taboo subject in our society.

4. What KIND of job is that? |
|
The only job interview that ever required a psychological exam for me was to become a stockbroker.
I was disqualified for being too "humanitarian".
I wear that like a badge of honor!

9. Will you be managing other people? |
|
Did you ask them if this is SOP?

I will only be managing a couple directly, but nearly everyone indirectly. They said that it was part of the process at the beginning of the interview. I don't know if this is policy for all hiring decisions or just positions that it considers more sensitive.

12. It may have something to do with managing others |
|
I think they may be doing this for most management positions.
Probably nothing to worry about.

Unless it's in a mental health profession, or there is a security clearance involved.

7. Might be just a myers-briggs |
|
or something like that to see if you're psychologically suited for the position.
Wish they'd done that for me before I embarked on my disastrous teaching career. 2nd choice was TV repair - I'd have been a natural.

8. I passed the psyche evaluation for the "SWAT Team". |
|
Really, I accidentally got scheduled with the officers .....I had to complete a psyche evaluation for a job in the Infirmary of the County Jail.
I had already worked per contract at a state prison, so I had the drill down. ( I still work at the prison).
It was funny, sitting at a table with 10 men.....all who wore side arms... taking a mental health evaluation.....Questions about shooting was involved.......
As the written exam went on, 2 of them were looking for spy cameras.
They new I was a nurse, and heard the proctor tell me I had to take the test because my name was on the list!
During the exam, I spoke out....." Hell, I'm just going to shoot and ask questions later". They all busted out laughing....

11. It is these days... it seems. If you're a nice, regular person, you have |
|
nothing to fear.
If you are on medications, display behavior that could endanger others, have a bad temper, etc., then you may have concerns.
But think about it as them protecting you. By subjecting the other employees to the same structure, you're protected from some nutcase shooting the place up in retaliation for having been looked at cross eyed on a Wednesday.
