1. You also wouldn't fit in "Other" for
those of us who lost people in WWII and just didn't find this series at all appropriate, let alone decent.

10. I have no one on my mother's
side except for her. She's the only one who escaped.

My father was already a US citizen and fought proudly for the allies. However, his family who believed it would all pass...all ended up being ashes at Auschwitz.

So, my biological family consists of my parents, my sister, my brother.

I don't know if I'll ever get over it.

Friends like you are my extended family.

6. I'm sorry for your loss, sweetcee.
Robert Clary (Lt. LeBeau, from HH) lost his entire family in the Holocaust. Werner (Col. Klink) Klemperer's Jewish family fled Germany in the mid-30s.

These men used their experiences acting on "Hogan's Heroes" as a healing experience.

Everyone deals with tragedy and loss in different ways, and you are perfectly right to feel the way you do about "Hogan's Heroes." I just wanted to let you know that there is also another side to the story.

And welcome :hi: to DU!

9. Thank you.
I know about those 2 cast members and it always made me feel ashamed.

Try to imagine a comedy about slavery and showing black people enjoying the experience. That's how it feels to me.

13. I sympathize.
I can't say I KNOW how you feel, because I've never been there. I do recognize your feelings, though.

Like I said, I would never tell you you're wrong, not having been through your experiences.

I do believe it's a bit different from your slavery analogy, though -- I think the more precise analogy would be a slavery comedy where the masters were bumbling idiots, and the slaves were passing along information to the Underground Railroad.

Not for everybody, to be sure. I like it. But I'm sure as hell not going to try to make you watch it.

15. Thanks and
you're also correct about the analogy. I get very upset over this subject and wasn't precise. Sorry.

3. Klink
I must have been hard for Werner to play someone so stupid. It is amazing what time can heal. Imagine a comedy about German prison camps on TV in 1950? Wonder if we will have a comedy about Arab terrorists in 2030? An interesting thought to ponder.

4. It's worth a thought
I myself am a great believer in the healing powers of gallows humor. Not enough people appreciate its true place in the mourning process, IMO.

Bobbie doesn't have a star, so she can't do polls.
