Poll question: Why do I fear the telephone?
I hate getting calls. The phone is there for me, not everybody else.

Is it a telemarketer? (No, I did not sign up for that vacation giveaway that I won and had I been suckered in, you'd thrust in a lot of secret fees and charges and switch my phone company behind my back. So take the vacation yourself. You probably need it more than me given your thankless job of being a telemarketer...)

Bill collector? (I'm keeping a budget, but I'm scared anyway.)

My boss? (Don't come into work, you're laid off. Or that CD you put in your computer grabbed the song list from Microsoft's database and the song entitled "You Sexy Thing" is a clear violation of our policies because someone from outside might see it and go after us so we're going to fire you...)

Someone else with bad news? (relative I love has died... you're evicted. "You are a sleazy filthy fag..." and so on... okay, I haven't been evicted, but it's only to add to the idea here...)

Someone who wants me to get involved in something, even if it's beneficial...

Telemarketer? (no, I did not sign up or do anything about that satellite dish you're trying to shove in my face. Go away and use the dish to eat food out of, thank you all the same...)

Why can't we be allowed to live in peace?

1. My friend doesn't have one
When he was having financial trouble, he didn't pay his phone bill and let it be disconnected. Now that he is making more money and should be able to afford a phone, he still doesn't have one. He likes not being pestered. The major draw back is that we have a hard time getting in contact with him and he sometimes does need to call people and has to use a pay phone then. That's always an option.
You could get a cell phone too but not give the number out too.
