Mom Finds Snake In Crib With Baby
A Long Island animal shelter is a temporary home for a 1-foot-long snake that a mother found coiled on her 7-month-old daughter's leg as the baby slept in a crib.

Cari Abatemarco of upstate Troy says she was visiting family in Brentwood last week when her baby's cries woke her one night. She tells Newsday that she found a snake wrapped around her daughter's leg.

Abatemarco says she lifted her daughter and the snake fell off. A relative removed the snake from the crib and placed it in a bucket until animal control officers arrived.

The reptile has been identified as a California king, a non-venomous snake that's not indigenous to the region.

9. I saw a snake on the side of the road yesterday. A cat was playing with it gently. I decided
to leave them as they were. The snake looked like a garden snake so nothing to do but let it be wild.

13. She called animal control...they took it to the shelter.
Probably because it was non-indigenous to the area.

And I doubt he wanted to bite that baby...he was just snuggling it for a while, to keep warm.

15. Ewwwwwww?
I wouldn't hurt a snake but I wouldn't want one in any beds.
Last year near where I live a bat was found in a baby's crib underneath the blanket. The baby had to have rabies shots. Even though she was not bitten.

17. Bats are no good
I mean, they're good flying around in the wild, but they can carry rabies and they can bite you without your knowing about it. :scared:

23. well
at least it wasn't a constrictor or anything. They can bite (boy, can they) but a one foot snake isn't going to do a ton of damage, even to a baby. Honestly, the worst that could happen is salmonella.

But still, i totally understand being concerned; i sure as hell wouldn't want a snake on my baby, regardless of the species
