AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Cat Spray!!!!
My cat Leon apparently sprayed while I was at the office. My back (enclosed) porch smells like, well, cat spray! Not pee..spray. You know, that special scent left by male cats marking territory. I've just run him to the vet, where he'll stay overnight for a urinalysis, to make sure his flutd isn't flaring up. That may be it, or it may be because of the ferals hanging around. I'm sure it's Leon. He's done it before, but it's been years. The other two have never sprayed.

So, now I have to find the best stuff for getting rid of this awful odor. Suggestions?

1. What's the difference between cat pee and cat spray?
I've never had a male cat.

2. Male cat spray smells more like mild skunk spray than urine.

3. Cat spray has a MUCH stronger smell than pee.
After dealing with spray, you're downright grateful when all they do is pee in the wrong place.

4. are you sure it isn't from the anal glands?
Because that is the worst-smelling of all feline bodily fluids. And very common. And very difficult to get rid of.

8. I thought it was the anal glands that they sprayed from when they marked territory
and it is some nasty stuff. I've never dealt with that specifically but Natures Miracle is really good for removing pee and poo smells and stains so I'd for sure give that a try.

9. according to what I read, that anal stuff is scared out of them
....at times. So I suppose that could be part of territorial behavior. Nasty, nasty stuff.

6. "Nature's Miracle" or "Simple Solution" will take it away.
Enzyme action. It works wonders. You can get it at Pet Smart or Pet Co. or most pet stores. It will not harm fabric or wood or anything.

You can even wash clothes with some added in the wash if your cat sprays a piece of clothing.

It's awesome.

7. fire
Just cover the affected area with gasoline and let it burn for a few days. That will get rid of the smell, almost for sure. If that doesn't work, just move - you won't have a house anymore anyway.

10. LOL!! I considered that. I don't think the trustees will be too happy.
Of course, they'd bitch if they knew how it smelled right now, too. So, worth considering. Thanks! :hi:

12. Oh gods, I feel your pain--er, I smell your pain
Same in our casa, but on a regular basis. About 2 1/2 years ago we moved to an old house with those tall, narrow windows that reach nearly to the floor. Add a neighborhood full of outdoor cats, and our grumpy alpha male orange tabby has gone berzerk (our cats are indoor cats). He sprays the windows (including the curtains which, thankfully, I can wash and bleach), he sprays the front door, he sprays the couch in front of the windows (thank the gods I splurged and bought a leather couch before we moved), he sprays the side of the chair just for good measure, as it's not anywhere near the windows (that, however, is ultrasuede, so it's harder to clean). He also sprays the door jambs in the interior of the house--I have no idea why--and once in a while he hits the bathroom door. Again, no idea why.

Nature's Miracle is my friend--it actually takes the stink out of the fabric chair. For all other resilient surfaces, I'm perpetually armed with Method grapefruit-scented cleaning spray.

Damned cat. Good thing he's cute.
