You know what would be awesome? If Michael McDonald sang all the themes for children's TV shows.

It would make "Fifi and the Flowertots" a lot more tolerable.

1. If you have not seen the DVD of Steely Dan's AJA, check it out!
It is a behind-the-scenes with Becker and Fagan, and they talk about how tight the harmonies were on "Peg," and then they isolate the vox from the mix, prefacing them with, "Man. It's cruel to do this. I'd hate if someone did this to me," then they do it. It's all in good humor, and in Mike McDonald's interviews on the DVD, he talks about how he knew what he was getting into with B&F and what great fun it was. There's also a great segment with Chuck Rainey, as he describes how he got the "slapping" parts of the bassline on Peg past B&F, who wanted no slapping on the tune (Chuck hid his hands behind his music stand!).

2. That disc is sitting on the shelf right next to the TV, actually.
Got it from Netflix the other day. I've seen it before, but had to see it again. I'm about halfway through. I'd love to hear the multitracks of just his chorus harmonies on "Peg," as they seem way more complicated than the transcriptions I've seen.

3. We do Peg in our band, and those harmonies are soooooooo tight.
Very hard to do correctly. We actually used that DVD to isolate some of them so we could learn them correctly!

4. I don't suppose you have those harmonies written out, do you?
:) We play "Peg" as well, but haven't really gotten around to learning all of those harmonies yet. (Too busy learning Blessid Union Of Souls songs for first dances.)
