1. If they want to?
I'm anti hair-coloring myself... but that's for my hair. :)

4. Not for me.
I'm damned proud of every grey hair on my head...I earned 'em! Also, at 45, I don't want my head o' hair to look younger than my face...the opposite is better, methinks.

I'm turning gray a lot later than they did, too.

6. Why not?
I think men should be able to use the same things that women use to look better (or younger). I think men will be wearing makeup in the not-too-distant future.

8. But it doesn't make us look younger.
It makes us look like old men with artificially dark hair.

Now if it makes us FEEL good, then fine. But it ain't for me.

9. Oooh that makes me want to ask...
does it make women look younger?

I get badgered about not dying my hair. If I could say "well this guy on the internet said it doesn't help anyway!" then... well, I could say that!

12. It definately depends on what you want to do,
looking younger doesn't do shit to make you feel younger. I know myself, I turned grey the day after I first got married.

I always said I'd never dye it, and I didn't. I just cut it off and grew a goatee instead. But as my luck has it, the moustache stayed the same color as my hair once was and the goatee grew in grey. I broke down and colored it after I separated thinking that a new life deserved it.

Simple advice to anyone thinking about coloring their facial hair. DON'T DO IT. That stuff burns like hell and it doesn't last.

As for the certain age, I went totally grey in my mid 20's.

18. It also makes your face look dirty.
My father in law begged me to tint his beard (in an effort to get my mother in law back after they'd been divorced 15 years) and it just looked so awfully wrong.

13. No!
Took me forever to get my lover to stop dyeing his. He's in his 60s and I told him grey hair is normal and kinda sexy. I won. He doesn't dye it anymore and is much better looking.

Khash.

having mostly black hair. I like having a beard, but it makes me look schizo. I think I should dye it, but haven't yet. I would love to know what others think about it.

21. is it ok for women to dye their hair? Same rules should apply.
With many of my female friends my age, I have no idea what their "real"
hair color is or was.
I do not dye my hair, I have quite alot of grey.
Nobody has serously suggested that I dye my hair. (or perhaps i laughed when they suggested it and the subject was dropped)
I AM just happy that so far--my hair has not DIED and that I still have it.

I also prefer no or minimal makeup for both sexes. I just don't find that painted look appealing.

Both times were for shows I was in.

It looked WEIRD!!

29. Why not?
I'm going to be 39 in August and I do. It's nothing extreme, just a shade over my natural color. Sorry, I have no wrinkles, jowls, sags or gut yet and I'm in no hurry to look like an old man when only one part of me is.

He was of "a certain age" and he looked terrible with dyed hair.

Nothing wrong with growing older gracefully.

31. My father dyed his.
First, he used that Grecian formula stuff. Then went on to dye. He had a jar of dye in the bathroom, then had the temerity to claim his hair colour was natural (suggestion - hide the stuff before bragging). I'm greying later and slower than he did.

My mop is taking on a silver sheen. Summer blonding in the sun will camouflage it for a few more years, but so be it.

32. Like every thing else, it depends.
I've seen some older gentlemen dye their hair successfully, enhancing their appeal and making their age seem somewhat undefinable. I've also seen a great many where the result was closer to 'faintly ridiculous.' I think in general, men know far less about chosing a colour that will get them the result they're looking for than do most women who dye their hair, and they've far fewer resources for gaining that information.

If some fella I care about wanted to dye their hair, I'd recommend getting it done by a professional at least the first couple of times so that they could be educated about the choices of colouring that flatter aging skin and the fading colourations of the face.

33. If they do, they should have a professional do it, so it doesn't look like shoe polish.
It's none of my business if they do or don't, but bad dye jobs are worst of all.

Also, if that "certain age" happens to be 36, and there's bleach involved, somebody has a great natural color and should leave it the fuck alone.

35. I'm a big fan of personal choice...
however I'm also a big fan of not looking silly.

When someone gives off every indication that they should have grey/white hair, and yet it's a very obvious dye job keeping the hair form its natural color, it tends to look a bit silly.

Young looking color with a wrinkly face just doesn't look right.
