Hey y'all. I know you'll probably tell me to toss it but the temp outside had dropped to the low 80's last night and as I was leaving for the store to buy the milk, I heard a fire alarm/smoke detector going off in the newly renovated vacant apt. in the other apt. building, so I stopped at the police/fire station and told them and then I went to the store. As I was returning from the store, I passed the Fire Chief's truck and he was behind me all the way to my house. So, I stopped to tell them how they might get in the building and then I went home, grabbed my bag but forgot the Gal. of milk behind the driver's seat. I rescued it this morning and it's in the fridge now but, should I drink it or toss it? It was slightly cool still to the touch when I got it out of the car at 10:30 AM. Just wondering.

"According to the http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/thriftyliving/tl-foodfreshness.html">University of Illinois Extension Service, milk is good 7 to 10 days past the sell-by date. Go by smell."

I haven't opened it to smell it.

1. How long was it not refrigerated?

I think if it's 4-5 hours, it should be fine. (This was told to me by my pediatrician, when I asked about baby bottles.)

Just smell it. If it passes the smell test, I'd go on and drink it.

2. 12 hours......
:(

It sounds like a silly question but milk is expensive but so are Dr's appointments and getting sick.

If you say 4-5 hours, then maybe I should throw it away. :(

Thanks!
