|
The greatest arcade game. But I think I was addicted to "Donkey Kong" longer. Honorable mention goes to "Wizard of Wor" and "Pot O'Gold".

and got to be pretty amazingly good at it, too, consistently hitting the high levels.

Once I found the hiding places for all the levels, I was unbeatable. I still play it sometimes with my Commodore64 emulator.

I totally ROCKED at that game. I could roll the score over twice on one quarter when I was about 15. Used to drive my boyfriend at the time nuts 'cause it was his favorite too but I was WAY better at it. (I never once did that stupid girl thing and let him win.)

Could play that game on average 2 1/2 hours per token/quarter. They hated seeing me at the local arcade. Pac Man would have to be second. Loved Joust, but never could play it well.

11. I have a ROBOTRON question: |
|
I really, really loved the CONCEPT of the game, and played it a lot, but am I the only person who couldn't play more than about 45 seconds?
I mean, was that game like totally f-ing impossible, or what?
I was a hell of a good game player in my day, but Robotron seemed to jump in difficulty/level about tenfold of any other game.
First wave - easy second wave - pretty hard third wave - building a perpetual motion machine is more realistic than finishing this damn thing

12. The faster the game, the better I did |
|
I couldn't play games like Pac Man that depended upon patterns, but give me a in-your-face speed game and I did great. Robotron is one of the few games I could beat anyone on. Gyruss was another.

13. Amazing - I did well on all video games, |
|
but Robotron was the anti-christ of video games to me, which always saddened me, because I loved it so much. One of the coolest ideas in video games, especially the independent 8-point movement of figure and firing.
But I could never get it, and neither could anyone I knew.
Kudos to you, Khephra!

34. Strategy point for Robotron. |
|
You have to blast your way to the outside first thing.
Second, you have to get the pulsing circle things that spawn the conehead robots that shoot you.
Third, you have to save enough humans to get at least one extra life before you get zapped. The waves with the Mars Attacks aliens in them were especially rich in humans to be saved. If you made it that far, it really didn't matter how many lives you needed to finish it.

Im not sure what you are talking about. It was an arcade blockbuster, in all 3 incarnations (Tekken 1, 2, and 3). It's out for many consoles,
If you've never seen it, think of Virtua Fighter on steroids.

19. Old school? Donkey Kong, no question |
|
Because? Shigeru Miyamoto is GOD.
If we're talking new school I'd say DDR or any other bemani game. Nothing like acting like a damn fool in public. :)
Inbetween? Street Fighter 2, for giving birth to an entire motherfucking genre. Too bad the series fell victim to the Capcom curse (see also, Resident Evil).

One of the best games ever. WAY THE HELL better than "Mario Brothers". What a bullshit, though interesting, game in comparison.
I loved Mario Brothers for the Atari 800, and for the first Nintendo, but the arcade version was just the shits.

The puzzle game!
And then there's Outrun.. I love driving games..
I've been looking for an F-Zero AX machine near here (Austin), but I can't find one. There's one in Metairie, LA (outside of New Orleans), and I'm going home to visit family in about three weeks, so I'll finally get to play it then. If you bring your GameCube memory card, there's a slot in the arcade machine allowing you to earn new vehicles and vehicle parts for your F-Zero garage at home. :)
