It was okay. And I ate at what is supposed to be the best place in town. But it just doesn't do a whole lot for me. I don't dislike it, but it's not something I crave. Now tempura is a whole different matter. I love that stuff. Anyone else share my ambivalence?

That's an experience I'll never forget!

3. No. I could eat $100. worth of sushi right now.
And then wish I could hold another $100. worth.

Any time you end up with sushi you don't want, email it to me.

4. I love sushi
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 02:07 PM by unpossibles
but I understand. You may find a variety you like - try some different things.

edit:
some sushi places have crunchy rolls - which have tempura in them. You might like those.

8. Unfortunately
This place doesn't have a frier, so they don't do tempura.

14. Define "fresh"
I'm from Nebraska...would NEVER eat sushi there. I wouldn't eat it in Michigan for the same reason...it requires transportation of some kind, since tuna's not exactly native. Think about how far away the source is, now really, is it fresh? No!

I wouldn't be basing my opinion of sushi on "fresh" tuna...in Michigan. :puke:

Same reason I don't order steak in LA, actually. YUCK.

17. Obviously it was flown in
So is it a few hours out of the ocean? Yes. Hey, they ship fish from the US to Japan for sushi as well.

23. The fish in most sushi is frozen for shipping and health reasons
In fact, I believe it's a law that salmon has to be frozen before it can be served as sushi. Salmon is more likely to harbour parasites than most other saltwater fish.

26. A lot of sushi restaurants on the west coast aren't serving salmon anymore
now that wild pacific salmon is endangered. Farm salmon isn't considered sushi grade, apparently.

But yes, if you eat sushi in the midwest, it's almost certain to have been flash-frozen prior to shipping. You only get actual fresh fish on the coasts.

27. and a little secret, in woodland hills
a joint called 'Brothers'

great sushi, bob marley always played (they dig reggae!)

and regular customers can add custom rolls to the 'secret menu'

Ventura & Canoga - worth the hassle of getting over the hill...

22. Yep, not a fan at all
Tried several different things, even doused some crummy tasting stuff in wasabi and still didn't like it. Not a fan of sake, either - so I save lots of $$$ when my friends head out for sushi & sake nites - I don't go.

Now, give me some good tempura, Benihana-style stuff and I'm good to go - just no sushi.
