I'm getting the sense that the new "Get Smart" movie won't be that funny. |
|
Just from the promos.
Hell, I could be wrong.

Kevin Kline should have had the role - he was very funny as Clouseau's superior or whatever he was...
I don't know if the Get Smart will be good, I'm not sure you can recover that kind of wackiness...

|
The plot was so convoluted, I just didn't care. Which is a shame, since I loved the series.

21. You know what made that movie really suck? |
|
It was Steve Carell trying to act like Paul Lynde. That really got me going.... nobody can do Paul Lynde! Wanna bet that Carell makes the mistake of trying to emulate Don Adams?

The problem with Get Smart is that the humor was based on the Cold War. Without it, the humor will fall flat.

13. So was the James Bond series of books |
|
Plus, the 1995 revival of "Get Smart" (on FOX, oddly enough) was surprisingly good - if not a tad dirty at times... of course, the 1995 version still had enough wit in its plot to keep my interest.
These days, movie writers think just digging up old material and throwing out fart jokes is what's funny; forgetting that actual wit can never supersede bodily functions.

11. What's the opening date?? |
|
That should tell you what the studio thinks its chances are -- bad movie = bad release date, good movie = prime release date. Also, what elses is opening that weekend?? If it is on eof many opening, that means the other studios don't think it will offer much competition -- if it is one or 2 that thee expect it to dominate.

opens the 20th, as well. Hmmm, two films that share demographics going head to head -- very interesting! A June release is usually a good sign - with Indy, SATC, & Kung-Fu Panda opening in that time frame, the release calendar was getting a little tight. If they had held it until July or, worse, August, I would be vey worried about the film. Now I am only mildly worried About it. Evan Almightly was a stinker that did well at the BO -- studios now thing Carrell can open a movie -- even a bad one. Just checked IMDB -- Evan Almighty opened June 22nd.

I split this weekend.
One side of me wants to see the new Hulk movie even though the last one was so awful/
The other side wants to see that new horror movie by the Sixth Sense guy even though I saw another of his films and almost tore my eyes out in frustration.
