What do you call it when your cat kneads something? |
|
Making biscuits at our house. We have "biscuit pillows" -- pillows on which it seems none of our pets can stop themselves from making biscuits. (Was that English?)
I think Heidi said at her house it's "gentle milk steps."
I'm bored. Can you tell?

Theory is that the cat doesn’t want to lie down on creepy crawlies, so a built in method is to pad around a bit to give them a chance to get out of the way. Same reason dogs go in a circle first.
DH is pretty sure that I must have bugs and that is why the cat started to knead, he really hasn’t had pets before.

It's a reflex from kittenhood. When kittens are nursing, they use their paws to knead at the teat in order to promote milk letdown. Or so I've been told.

is that it's nesting behavior, like dogs turning circles before they lie down to sleep. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kneading_(cats) "You can milk anything with nipples."

Supposedly, it's a kitten signal to mama cat that baby wants milk, and many adult cats seem to retain that behavior as some sort of greeting or endorsement of their humans.

But we are convinced that the cats are muttering to themselves, "You (victim) need kneading," to which we answer, "Cat, I do NOT need kneading. No really. REALLY..." soon followed by "OW! Okay, you're done." Fling. "Meworw!"
And then, if it's our neurotic runt, she does a revenge poop in the hallway or the den. Thank the gods we have hardwood floors.
