6. It's an old rhubarb bed. |
|
I think it's about 45 years old. It just had been getting weaker every year for the last ten years. This year, it just didn't come back.
Not sure why. Perhaps the soil had changed or the plants were just tuckered out.

12. My dear CasualWatcher9... |
|
I just make mine into sauce!
Very easy...
Wash, cut into approx. one inch lengths...
Simmer over low heat with a little water...
Cook till chunks have vanished...
A little sugar ...
Cool, store, and eat!

16. Funny you should mention rhubarb |
|
When I was a kid, my grandma use to grow rhubarb in her garden, and we learned to eat it raw, just dipping it in sugar, and I remember it being a tart sweet treat that I loved.
Then, somehow I forgot about it and until today, when I saw some at the store and brought it home and tried to eat it that way, and YUCK it was horrible! I don't know if it's because 1) my taste buds have dramatically changed or 2) the store-bought stuff is just awful or 3) other. But I couldn't even swallow the first bite.
So, now I guess I will make the sauce describe upthread, with the remaining stalks.
I'm just so confused, what happened to all those wonderful childhood memories? Was I deluded back then, or have things really changed that much?

39 cups I mean...: )
you're excellent...setting a great example of using local food...and it sounds like you get a great deal of enjoyment out of it too...like I think many people would if they did the same.
I hope to have a porch size garden when I move into my new condo, I'll see what I can do, I travel a lot so it might be difficult to keep up.
