I have a floater in my right eye, and its driving me nuts!
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 11:38 PM by Lil Missy
I was recently diagnosed with cataracts in that eye, if that has something to do with it.

It started to get bad last week, and while I was in bed I kept thinking I saw a spider on the wall. I kept smacking the shit out of it with a Kleenex box, but it kept appearing anyway.

My mother came in there to ask me what all the noise was about, and I pointed out where the spider was and kept smacking it with the Kleenex box.

She kept giving me a crazy look, and insisted that there was nothing there and I was just smacking the wall. THAT'S when I realized I had some kind of floater in my eye.

I mention this because in the last couple days it has become much worse. When I read I have to close my right eye because that hairy looking spider thing blocks my view and follows be from one sentence to another.

Time to make another Dr appointment I guess. It's nothing serious, but it is sure a major nuisance.

Edit for misspelling and grammar.

1. Floaters are more common as one ages.
In particular, people who are nearsighted and over age 45 are more prone to developing floaters.

3. Yeah, I was too vain to suggest it had anything to do with aging.
Interesting you should point out that nearsighted and over 45 are more prone to floaters. I have been nearsighted and worn glasses since the 2nd grade. And I am also over 45.

Incidentally, do you know if it can be fixed? Or is this just something you have to live with. Tonight they look like spiders with long tails and some barely visible wings.

5. Don't know about fixing it. Just have friends and families who have developed them.
My sib with them finds them really annoying -- has one in each eye.

2. I've had floaters since I was a kid
I remember thinking I could see "germs" and thought everyone saw them too. I guess most people do see floaters and they are usually pretty benign things, but I'm not sure how much kids see them, but I remember seeing them, and I see them all the time as an adult. I mostly just ignore them. I have had a few that were large enough as to be distressing but my eyes are fine. Well, fine enough

Sorry you have cataracts in an eye, it sounds pretty annoying if it looked like a spider.

I've had them and thought I saw someone out of the corner of my eye.

6. I've never had them till recently.
And as I mentioned to the previous poster, they seem to be growing at a pretty fast pace.

4. I hate it when they are right in my direct line of sight.
I tend to get a lot of them, along with the string of Christmas lights, right before a migraine.

7. That sounds much worse than just a floater. Maybe the Christmas lights were triggering it?
I am not getting headaches with the floaters, thank goodness.

I did have one experience about 30 years ago that I suspect was a migraine. It was on a 4th of July, and I had intended to take my son to the carnival that day.

Out of nowhere, I suddenly got extremely and violently ill with a headache and nausea. I had to lay down, and could not stand any light, so I closed all the shades in my room. I could not even sit up, and wretched and dry heaved for a couple hours.

After several hours, it lifted just as fast and mysteriously as it came on. I was pretty worn out by then, but I did end up taking my son to the same place to watch the fireworks.

And it has never happened since then.

 back atcha!
