Uh Oh - Consumers Feeling "Packet Rage"
its ARMAGEDDON I TELL YA!

<snip>

MORE consumers are feeling "package rage", frustrated at trying to prise open jam jars, safety caps and ring-pull cans.

Older people particularly are struggling to open grocery items that are becoming more childproof, tamper-proof and sealed tightly to keep in freshness.

Even the sheer quantity of packaging frustrated consumers, especially the trend for more items to be individually wrapped.

And who hasn't tried to open a packet of chips with their teeth, only for packet to rip and the contents go everywhere?

1. So that's what it was!
I had to stab a 3-liter coke bottle with a pair of scissors the other day because I couldn't get the cap off. Funny thing is, we had already opened the bottle and I was trying to get the last of it.

I couldn't get the cap to come off so I stabbed it through the heart and poured the coke out of the hole.

3. I found a delicious tea, Red Rose, that just has a box full of bags.

The whole box is easily opened, though sealed in plastic wrap. I used to use Lipton, but had to wrestle each bag out of a paper thingy, and it tee-ed me off every time. I think they should only be allowed to use mason-type fruit jars for glass packaging, small med and large. Liquid products (see shampoo) usually come in deceptive, optical-illusion bottles that fall over if you breathe on them. Now I feel better. Thanks for listening. Edited to add: getting a CD or video open is infuriating.

4. Funny, yes, but it is a real problem for my 80 year old mother.
The young men in the house across the street actually come over and help her open her prescriptions, groceries, etc. She asked once if the pharmacy technician or the pharmacist could loosen her meds for her and they are prohibited from doing it (they said it was a store regulation, she didn't know if it was illegal).

It's gotten to be outrageous.

5. The stuff packaged in that heavy molded clear plastic is the worst.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 08:22 AM by blondeatlast
The packaging alone should carry a warning label!

How the hell do others open it? I attack it with scissors and still get injured nearly every time.

edited for clarification

7. My pet peeve is display packaging.
The kind where you have this molded clear plastic thing with a hook on it holding some item such as a portable CD player. Try as you may, you can't get the damned thing open with anything that doesn't pose an unnecessary safety hazard.

9. Imagine this problem and having to deal with these..................
packages when you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Had surgery in both hands and my co-ordination/dexterity is impaired. I could cry some days just trying to put together a bowl of cereal!!! There is not a day that goes by that I don't have to wrestle with at least one package or product. It gets to the point that I try to plan my day so that someone can pre-open the things I will need that day.........argh!!!!
