"The Happening" spoilers...
haven't seen it, got this info off the intertubes, but I've reason to believe it's true.

It's about killer plants and tree.

Plants and trees that are sick and tired of all the "negative energy" coming from humans, so they release toxins that cause humans to commit suicide.

With lots of gratuitous shots of violence, and people running away from wind.

2. I'm over his movies
Sorry people. His brand of yawn just doesn't do it for me. Signs makes Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure look like a documentary shot in real time.

7. I actually liked Bill and Ted
It didn't pretend to be something it's not. Signs wants you to take it seriously, but it has about as much depth as a late 50's sci fi movie with monsters that know how to do the twist at ice cream socials.

Fuck Signs.

8. killer plants and trees
That's the word all over IMdB. I'm definitely going to pass. I've actually never been a fan of M.Night's. I was kind of enjoying Sixth Sense up until that damned ending. Haven't liked anything he's done since.

10. I heard about that...
I'm guessing he took it from the phenomenon of acacia trees - when a giraffe starts grazing, the leaves begin to produce a toxin called tannin. After awhile, the giraffe has to stop eating or it will get sick. And when one tree starts making tannin, all the trees downwind "get the message", so to speak, and also start producing the toxin. The giraffes try to beat the system by making sure they don't graze on any trees downwind of the one they just finished.

Plants can be funky lifeforms.

I must confess I am an M. Night Shyamalan fan, and I did like Signs, The Village, and Lady in the Water, but even I am balking at this one. But I'll have to Netflix it just to make sure. :)

11. Mr. DTBK was inquiring about movies today
I don't want to remind him that this is opening today, or he'll want to go. I loved "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs," but haven't liked any of the films since.

Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 06:03 PM by Fox Mulder
please tell me you are...

Edited to add that the only reason I'd ever see it is because of Zooey Deschanel. She's the only person that made Elf watchable.
