48. I was, too.
I honestly don't even understand the reference in the OP.

Of course, Marcy's first husband had Rhoads as a last name, so there would have only been one choice anyway, but let's not confuse the issue with facts.

3. There's only one Mr. Darcy.
I found some things to like in the Keira Knightley version, perhaps including Matt McWhatzit, but really, they needn't have bothered with the remake. Ehle-Firth stand head and shoulders above any other version ever filmed or that will be filmed.

And I'm looking at you, Sir Larry.

37. Yeah, that's him.
I thought his P&P stank, being a turgid little affair that squelched all Teh Funny. The only good thing was Lady Catherine. She was wonderful, but ruined by the
Hollywood happy ending.

And wasn't whatzerface wearing hoop skirts? Yeah, she was, or nearly so:

Who played Darcy in that PBS version from the 1980s?

42. David Rintoul.
He's the Scottish-born actor who starred in the Dr. Finlay series that aired here in the States in the 1990s.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0727778/

During one of those PBS pledge breaks Rintoul was the guest in a local public television station studio and apparently chatted over the phone with members calling in their donations!

And while I was looking up pictures of David Rintoul, I found this Pride and Prejudice Smackdown page! Enjoy.

35. Absolutely.
And don't get me started on the awful portrayals of Mr. Collins, Mr. Bennett and Mrs. Bennett in the Keira Knightly debacle, either.

The A&E version is the ONLY version worth watching.

But then, that P&P is my favorite as well. Love this scene:

Sir Larry is second, but unfortunately MGM's P&P did not measure up to the BBC's. That is probably the most heretical statement I shall ever make as a classic film fan...

25. Colin Firth!
Macfayden was quite lovely, too, though. But Firth is the true Darcy in my book -- the A&E series is just wonderful. The scene when he's looking at Elizabeth when she's helping his sister Georgiana play the piano ... SWOON! And when he puts the bitchy Bingley sisters in their place as they sit smirking over Elizabeth after that dinner (where Elizabeth helps Georgiana). Oh, sigh.

And he was great in Bridget Jones as Mark Darcy as well. I LOVED how meta that was!

However, I've been trying to keep him away from the screen at least some of the time with some outdoor camps, pool, ball games etc.

34. As a guy, let me chime in: Colin Firth IS Darcy.
And there is no other production of P&P worth watching than the A&E version.

The Keira Knightly movie was a travesty. Utterly unwatchable.

My wife and my two daughters an I all love the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. Accept no substitutes!

Beautiful and he played the part wonderfully. And it's not an easy role - you have to balance arrogance and love.
(And his pants were so tight there was nothing left to the imagination)
