Poll question: How often do you use turn signals...
I think that one of the most dangerous things on the roads is a driver who does not announce his or her intentions through the use of turn signals. So, how often do you use your turn indicators?

1. I never ever forget, because the cops are no doubt watching me.
When you live in Fargo, you get paranoid of the cops pretty quickly. The most fascist police force in the US. Even more so than the LAPD.

... "in the middle of a lane change, only after I've successfully cut someone off"

5. The law says ALWAYS!!! You freaks that don't shouldn't have a license!!
God I hate driving behind people that don't signal. Like I'm supposed to read their freaking minds and know they're going to turn. I believe there should be a law that if a person is turning without using a signal we can rear end them and it's their fault. That pisses me off to no end! USE YOUR FREAKING TURN SIGNAL!! IT'S NOT A COMPLEX THING TO DO YOU FREAKING RETARDS!!
Yes, I have road rage....but can you really blame me?

12. Lack of turn signals pisses me off too...
I don't think there is anything that causes me more road rage than getting cut off by someone who doesn't even bother to reach for their turn signal. Seriously, if it wasn't a big deal, then only the luxury model vehicles would have turn signals. But since every car has them (even if they are broken... if so, shame on you), that makes me think that we're supposed to use them.

Okay... sorry for the ranting. It's a sore subject - the event that I described happened to me this morning on the way to work. :grr:

:nuke:

...people who have posted: You're going down a two lane highway, the guy in front of you has his right turn blinker on; are you going to pass him on the left before he actually starts his turn?

see too many wrong way signals, or people driving oblivious that their signal is on. Don't trust anybody until you see what they're actually doing!

or anywhere else, it's a different story, but the town I live in, I would get tickets litterally twice a day if I drove over the limit at the rate that happens in most cities.

because I figure it's none of their business what I'm gonna do.

Isn't it enough to deal with a stickshift, coffee, mapreading, cellphone and giving the finger to the asshole I just cut off?

Keeps them on their toes, it does.

13. I'm A "When Cars Are Around" Guy
Even on the highway, when the nearest car is a quarter mile away, i'll change lanes without using it. I figure the point of the turn signals is to SIGNAL other drivers of your intention. If you're no where near them, the signal is superfluous.

But, if cars are around, or pedestrians, i'll use them pretty diligently.

For some reason, to me there's just something arrogant (not to mention, inconsiderate) about people who just drift over into your lane without signaling.

20. interesting story
i did a college study on turn signals. i was studying the type of car that would or wouldn't use their turn signals on the freeway. it was basically either a two-door coupe or 'other.' the sports cars be far used their turn signals less. probably not surprising. the study obviously goes much deeper than that, but that's the jist.

23. Anytime there's other vehicles on the road
If it's the middle of the night and I'm turning down my deserted street to get into my driveway, no. If there are other cars within view, then yes, I am pretty religious about it. I'm also hardcore about turning them OFF. I detest the perpetua-blinkers. I think maybe they make the blinkers too quiet for people who are on the phone, listening to loud music, or just getting a trifle hard-of-hearing. My husband never hears his, I always have to bitch at him to turn them off.

even when there are no cars around, because of habit. I don't even think about it. I always put the parking break on, too, for the same reason. The parking break thing always annoys my husband, but I say better safe than sorry. Especially with kids in the car.

Edited to add that I don't leave my kids parked in the car. But I did hear of a story of gears accidently shifting while someone was getting their kids out, and the car went rolling off with one of them.

33. I announce my intentions.
I am talking right out loud about what I am going to do. Plus, I have powers over other motorists' minds. Why do you think they get out of my way when I am moving my machine? Then they make some sort of sign language at me.

Sometimes I turn them on and leave them that way because of the pretty lights and also the "ping ping ping" sound they make.

When driving bores me (makeup done, phone calls made, food eaten, all the usual driving things), I push the red triangle thingie on the dashboard. What fun! All the lights blink at the same time and everyone else stays away from me. Then everyone makes more sign language at me. I think they are admiring my driving skill.

35. Turn signal elitist here
Huge peeve = people who don't signal.

Driving along on two-lane street, following Buick with Bush/Cheney2004 bumper sticker in left lane. Light turns red, Buick stops. Stevie stops behind. Waits through whole cycle of light. Light turns green, THEN Buick driver signals left turn. Right lane already jammed. Stevie waits, glares. Buick turns left and driver fingers Stevie. Stevie mad. Starts generalizing about Buick drivers.

Apologies to any turn signal proficient Buick drivers here. Haven't met you yet.

I even signal in parking lots; both turning into an aisle and into a space.

It's an ingrained habit - going to turn, signal, then turn the steering wheel.

38. USE IT, DAMNIT! from a motorcyclist
A little blinking light. That's all we ask. Let us know what you're going to do. Doesn't matter where you are--San Francisco, Des Moines, Burlington--there are motorcyclists about. And while we're watching what you do (we know when you're talking on a phone, or eating, or trying to find a CD, etc.) you rarely see us. To the car behind you, it's a courtesy. To the motorcyclist, it could be the difference between life and death.

Thank you in advance. :)
