1. Some people are idiots like me...
I fed my lawn a lot of good food early in spring, and now I have to mow the lawn every four of five days depending on the temperature. I use a push mower so you shouldn't complain about my noise.

My compost is loving the food I'm feeding it because I'm maintaining a temperature between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit. I will put the finished compost in the veg garden next year instead of the lawn.

Stupid idea, feeding a lawn.

17. Spring?
What's this "spring" thing I keep hearing about. It's still raining here half the time and overcast most of the rest of the time. I think we're on day 9 of sunshine for year today (9 of 165, maybe 10).

13. I was 8 years old reading that novel on the third floor of my Grandfathers Rectory.
He had a huge garden as only the Scots-Irish can and the Rectory was located on a hill overlooking the harbor at Caven near Cork in the south of Ireland. The Atlantic storms caused the trees to brush up against the windows. I absorbed in the book ran scared downstairs to my grandparents who were taking tea by the fire. I timidly asked if Ireland had any Triffids and my Grandfather knowingly answered aye I found two in the garden not more than a day ago and had to take the sword to them (He then pointed to a sword clung by a suit of armor standing guard over the fireplace).

I went back into my room and continued my reading. A particularly strong gust caused the tree branch to break through the lead glass window in my bedroom. You have never seen a boy run so fast or scared as I ran that night.

18. lol!

I'm sorry, it was probably pretty frightening at the time, but it's still a great story! :)

I've never read the book, but I thought the movie was well-done. Most British-made scifi of the time seemed to be better made with better stories than anything the US was making.

It's not a big deal. I can always go back to sleep if I want to sleep in.

Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 02:46 PM by Breeze54
neighbor has now hired a lawn guy and they get it done on Friday afternoon now!! Halleluyah! He was always out there on Sunday morning and blowing the fucking leaves out of his yard at 8 AM! What an asshole but things have changed around here now. I'm not sure if my letter writing campaign (J/K!) was the reason or the weekly postcards (J/K!) from 'anonymous' did the trick, but the asshole has seen the light!! Praise Gawd!!! :P

11. I get it seven days a week
I work at home, so I get to hear every retiree and lawn service in the neighborhood. Every. Single. Day. And damn, with nothing else to do, those retirees mow CONSTANTLY. My nextdoor neighbor has a riding mower, so for him it's just like tooling around on his vintage scooter or in his pseudo sports car (two-seater Chrysler or something)--just something else to ride--"whee!" :eyes:

14. We have a teenager next door who does the same thing...
mindless driving around in figure 8's. Funny thing is, before these people moved in, the old neighbors had a kid who did the same thing, day and night. It must be something to do with that house. It's "possessed."

16. at least it's not a noisy dirt bike
being ridden endlessly by a mind-numbed kid all summer long. And the parents are just as addled brained by seeing nothing out of the ordinary in this ritual. After all, that's what they did as a kid and see how well they turned out.
