Classic episodes from favorite TV Series |
|
Classic episodes are those memorable episodes that you can say a phrase or a scenario and folks automatically can visualize which TV Episode you are talking about.
For example: If I said "As God as my Witness, I thought Turkeys could fly" folks know that's probably the absolutely best episode ever of "WKRP in Cincinnati" when the radio station did a turkey drop from a helicopter with live turkeys.
Another example would be "Master of my Domain" which was a key phrase from one of the best Seinfeld Episodes "The Contest" where the 4 main Seinfeld characters wanted to see who could go the longest without, well, um, (please don't lock for a sex thread) masterbastion.
So what are other legendary/classic episodes from your favorite TV series?

1. "Sammy's Visit." That final shot, when Sammy Davis Jr. kisses Archie on the cheek, has to be one of the funniest moment in TV history!
2. "Edith's Problem." In which Edith goes through menopause and is transformed from her usual ditzy, good-natured self into a petulant hellbeast. The funniest moment occurs when Edith tells Archie to, "Stifle!"

In the first episode she told of being at a fancy party in Washington. She asked a woman "Where are y'all from?" The woman replied "I'm from a place where we do not end our sentences with prepositions..." Julia replied graciously, "I'm sorry. Where are y'all from, bitch?"

13. "Seoul Mates"--Northern Exposure (The Christmas show) |
|
Maurice finds he's a father (& grandfather), Holling sings "Ave Maria" for Shelley, and Marilyn explains why Raven lights are popular:
"A long time ago, the raven looked down from the sky and saw that the people of the world were living in darkness. The ball of light was kept hidden by a selfish old chief. So the raven turned himself into a spruce needle. She became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, who was the raven in disguise. The baby cried and cried until the chief gave him the ball of light to play with. As soon as he had the light, the raven turned back into himself. The raven carried the light into the sky. From then on, we no longer lived in darkness."
In honor of the forthcoming Northern Exposure DVD's. The 8-episode first season is coming & eventually the rest ought to be available.

I know that I sound terribly old and backward when I say it, but I do miss the good old days of "moral" television.
I have no issues with most shows these days, but they (nealry) all (writers) seem to believe that they have to either shock us or beat us over the head with a script to drive home a point. It's wither that, or mindless insults. The sarcasm that passes for comedy is getting old, too.
There are a few good shows out there. They just seem to be getting fewer and farther between.

almost every episode should be considered a classic.
How about Aunt Bea's "tonic"? Or Malcolm Merriweather? and I still lmao when Gomer's shotgun falls from the courthouse roof.
I guess my favorite group of Andy episodes has to be anything with the Darlings. What do you expect? I grew up in hill and holler country in KY.

27. BUFFALO BILL : The episode with all the Jerry Lewis Impersonators |
|
Buffalo Bill was an older show from the 80's (maybe early 90's) that starred Dabney Colman. It was the first show where the Star was an unlikeable SOB.
On this particular episode, they had a contest of Jerry Lewis impersonators, and everywhere Dabney went he was accosted by the Jerry Lewis guys. It was one of the funniest things on TV ever. I was later watching some special on Jim Carey and he was one of the Jerry Lewis guys. TV Guide rated it as one of the top 10 funniest moments on TV .
I wonder if this series will ever come out on DVD.

The finest moment was the "Jerry Lewis" trying to prevent the station manager from commiting suicide by "cheering him up."
Another classic moment from that series, Joanna Cassidy telling him that she was pregnant...

And the 94 year old tap dancer....

Man, I loved that one.
Also the holiday episode when Mike's old friend, who went to Canada during Vietnam, showed up and joined them for dinner. Also at the dinner was Archie's friend Pinky Peterson, whose son was killed in Nam. That was a powerful episode.
And the one when Archie constantly insulted and made fun of Mike's friend, who was sensitive and wore glasses, because he thought he was gay (he wasn't) and it turned out that Archie's friend Steve, an ex-football player, was gay.
