Name the Band You Most Wish You Could See Live But Never Will
For me, I'd put Fugazi, Alice In Chains and the Clash at the top of the list. Of course there is always the outside chance the first will get back together, and the second has, but without Layne it's not quite the same IMO.

When the Wall came out, my son was about three. It was the era of "the Big WHeel" and I can remember all the kids on the street on their big wheels singing "We don't need no education"

If you can imagine half a dozen little four year olds singing that song, for most of one summer -- it always struck me as so SURREAL.

Did the White Stripes break up recently? That would be pretty surprising since they're married, and Meg is a pretty rubbish drummer who likely couldn't get a job with any other halfway decent band.

65. The ORIGINAL Tubes
...although I did see them four times, in their heyday. Once, Boz Scaggs came out for "White Punks On Dope" during his "Silk Degrees" career peak. Blue pinstipe suit, white Strat...sucker was SHARP. There was also a guy in a gorilla suit, and Fee Waybill proclaimed the Spooner/Steen/Scaggs/gorilla lineup as "THE LYNYRD SKYNYRD GUITAR SECTION, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!"

Waybill/Spooner/Steen/Prince/Cotten/Anderson/Welnick/Styles...and joined a couple of years into it by Mingo Lewis on percussion.

In 2008, the band still includes Waybill/Steen/Prince/Anderson...but the original? Some of the best shows I've seen in my life.

69. You and I might have been in the same audience...
...one of my fondest memories was attending several Tubes shows at Bimbos with my posse. I've always followed whatever Fee Waybill did, but Spooner leaving was a major mojo loss for me. He basically carried the weight onstage while Fee was in the middle of costume changes.

By the way...something you might already own, but I'll tell you about it anyway...Jack Casady's solo album "Dream Factor" from 2003 featured one track with what's gotta be THE ultimate "super group" of all time on a track called "Sweden."

Fee Waybill, vocals
Jack Casady, bass, lead "Versatone Bass," guitar
Warren Haynes: Lead Guitar (left channel)
Jorma Kaukonen, Lead Guitar (right channel)
Steffen Presley, Hammond B-3, keyboards
Steve Gorman, drums

...and the best part is the fact that the track is KILLER (no wasted talent here).

"Black smoke, grey skies, are all I see through frozen eyes"...

97. The guys have been doing some interesting shows lately...
Covers of Zappa and Hedwig & The Angry Inch...the return of "This Town" and "I Want It All Now" to the setlist. They still need a second guitarist, though.

They HAD been in discussions to play some reunion shows when Vince died. Perhaps when Michael Cotten finishes the documentary. I can only hope.

74. AFTER Kenny Jones left the band...
...Townshend acknowledged that Moon was the heart of the band.

Entwistle was the "lead guitarist" (anyone who doesn't believe that can listen to "The Real Me" from "Quadrophenia")...

I have vivid memories of the original Who, and Moon was ALWAYS the spoke that the wheel turned on.

98. I saw Daltrey/Townshend on the tour for "Endless Wire"...
...and I have to admit, even without Moon and Entwistle, it was still an amazing performance. I think Zak Starkey is probably the closest they'll ever come to having Keith Moon back. (In fact, according to The Who's Wikipedia entry, they offered Zak a permanent position in the band.)

I saw Entwistle in the late 90s on one of his solo tours, and he also put on a great show. I thought he let his drummer talk too much, though. :)

Has been my favorite band since I was in my 20's way back in the 70's, which dates me. Not a month goes by I don't listen through "Live and Dangerous" at least once. They still tour but without Phil on vocals and bass it's not really Lizzy.

78. All the usual suspects...
...like The Beatles, Hendrix, Skynyrd, Zeppelin, The Who...all bands whose hey-day was before my concert-going time began (around 1981 or 82, whenever the Mob Rules tour happened.)

The ones that kill me, though, are the ones I could've seen but didn't: Queen, SRV, and especially Pantera. My friends went to shitloads of Pantera shows and always invited me, but something came up or I just didn't feel like it. Dammit, dammit, dammit!

101. As did I...first official show of the reunion tour in 1991 (or '92, I forget) in Philadelphia.
While Carl Palmer's inability to keep a steady beat drives me insane, the combination of those three is amazing.

(I say "official" because they did a warmup show for a small audience at the Tower Theater a day or two before the tour started.)

94. In actuality, I saw Bolin
in his next to last show of his life. He looked bad. He was confused, angry, and just all around disoriented. Now we know why. He was addicted to heroin and he died because of it. What a waste. But it would have been good to see him when he fronted the James Gang. He was a good guitar player.

124. I actually saw Fugazi in highschool way back when.
I also got to see Joe Strummer before he passed away. My father sometimes speaks about how he went into seclusion over John Lennon's passing - I can relate. The morning I woke up and heard on the radio that Joe didn't wake up I just packed my things up from work and went home and turned off the phone and the tv. I mourned for three days. Sometimes, it still hurts to think he's gone. I almost feel guilty that I never got to tell him (the few times I had the chance) that he changed my life. If I ever thought of someone as a hero, it's Joe. For those who don't know much about him, check him out on wikipedia.

I can't really say there are any bands I'd like to see live, because I've attended and/or often opened for every act I'd ever want to experience.

The best live band ever: Oingo Boingo.
