Yep, it's a daily thing anymore.

I hope this doesn't mean Iowa is getting more rain, but I fear...

2. We had a storm at 7 am. My alarm was set for 7:15, but the beagle
woke me at 10 'til, to go out before the storm. I thought about all of you, wondered whether you had gotten it. How are things in Cedar Falls now?

3. Fine, downtown is back to normal (for the most part - except for some basement pumping)
Of course the Ice House will need some TLC. North Cedar is a mess - those poor folks - that's gonna take some time.

Waterloo, the water isn't going down as quickly as they'd like so some folks are still displaced. Will be going to work on Monday in downtown Waterloo, will see how bad it is then.

4. It's just unbelievable. I just checked the IDOT website again.
Can't believe all the roads that are closed. In places I didn't know where affected--Adel, Mason City, even 61 in Davenport, which I don't think of as being all that close to the river. Just amazing. You're all in my prayers.

7. 61 in Davenport
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 08:43 PM by Bluzmann57
The part of the highway they are referring to is a part of River Drive which is actually 61/67. If you are headed east (or west) on 61, then you will turn up Brady Street and magically head up the hill. And it leads north, toward Dubuque and Wisconsin. But it is probably packed with traffic as part of I-80 is closed and 61 is the detour. Just wanted to clear things up. I live here and have been on these roads many times.

9. This helps a lot. 61 North is what I need. To get to Eagle Grove
near Ft. Dodge. Thanks!

You live in Davenport? I was born there, in what was at the time Mercy Hospital--Genesis West, now, I think. Went to Adams School. We moved across the river to Kewanee (yes, the home of Good's Furniture) when I was 12. Still went to Davenport to the dentist, orthopedist, and to see friends.

I'm amazed at how much it's grown. We lived on the very Northwest edge of the city, at 36th and Kelling. I get the feeling that isn't the edge anymore!

Anyway, thanks for your help. I keep hoping that things will be better by the time I need to head over there on Friday.

5. my condolences
when my city was flooded.. going on two weeks now... it was just unreal. the roads were impassable to get from Bloomington (where I am) to Indy unless you went three hours out of the way.

you all have it so much worse.

I really wonder what is going to happen with food supplies. Farmers here couldn't put corn in the ground.. we've had about four days of less rain rather than more..still some showers.. so things are drying out a little bit.

no doubt this will impact food prices too. food, fuel and housing crises.

that's a recipe for some major financial pain.

6. I'm not in Iowa. I'm about 2 hours away. But lots of friends and family there.
I'll pass on your condolences. It all means a lot to them.

And yes, this will affect the economy in terrible ways.

I'm sorry to hear your city was flooded. There was bad flooding in Wisconsin, too. Lots of people are suffering. You have my condolences as well.

10. Lots of friends in Iowa, but my dad is now in WI, my siblings in IL and MN.
I've heard from all of my friends in Iowa City, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Humboldt, Des Moines and Davenport. Everyone is safe, though some have had to stay in shelters or have workplaces under water. The hardest part is still Eagle Grove, where I used to serve, dealing with the death of one of the 14 year old Boys Scouts. So much sadness.

The storms here have passed. I hope they didn't drop more rain in IA.

Thanks for your concern, KW!

11. I heard from my aunt today.
She lives on a lagoon that leads to Lake Nagawicka near Delafield, WI. Her house has 3 inches of water in the basement, and although she is in CA right now, she has someone checking on her house daily and has 5 sump pumps running to try and get the water out.

I am praying for everyone affected by these floods.
