3. How much time do you have to fix it?
a few seconds, maybe a minute or two?

5. At 5 to 8 hundered feet, a typical height for a combat jump, there is NO time to fix ANYTHING.

The reserve chute is strictly ornamental at that altitude...

6. yes, I am very aware of that
thank you.

I thought this was a copycat joke thread, not a real discussion on the physics of jumping out of airplanes...

11. The reserve chute is strictly left in the rigger shed at that altitude
With all the other shit a paratrooper's got to carry, the last thing he's going to take with him is something as totally useless as a reserve.

Did you know Fort Bragg is the only installation in the US Army whose "days till last injury" sign only counts fatalities? If it counted injuries, like every other installation's does, it would read "minutes since last injury." Yadkin Road (one of the main commercial strips leading to post) has the highest number of chiropractors per mile in the United States, and there's a reason for that.

12. Static line
Military jumps use a static line hooked to the plane.

I suggest you concentrate on a proper PLF and get on with the mission...
