The BlueIris Semi-Nightly Poetry Break, 6/16/08
"I Could Have Gone to Boston"

and drank Martinis in the Ritz Bar
where Anne Sexton sat in bangles
with cropped black hair
lusting after George Starbuck
with her deep whiskey voice,
her cigarette smoke curling
the way smoke only curls
when one poet tries to seduce another.

Instead I'm in Oregon
sitting on the cement
steps of the building
where Dorfman shot
the horse in Animal House
and where the pioneer
mother and the pioneer father
have looked at each other
through two sets of glass
doors since 1919.

This is what I know of love,
the man I want never wanting me.
And the one I don't slapping my face,
telling me I look cute in my Hallmark apron,
clinging to my thigh too long like a bruise.

1. My dear BlueIris!
Well, this is a lot better than yesterday's!

Still kinda weird, though...

I get the last stanza!

It's great...

Thank you...

4. Hot!
with her deep whiskey voice,
her cigarette smoke curling
the way smoke only curls
when one poet tries to seduce another.

6. Okay. When I found this one, I was kinda focused on the last stanza,
which is anything but hot. Still, I guess this poem has other good qualities.

7. I think the last stanza seems slapped on this poem
Doesn't really tie the rest together.

Seems like 2 poems.
