Finally got to see the John Adams HBO series and really liked it |
|
I bought the DVD and watched the five of the seven episodes. I thought it was pretty good, Giamatti is a decent Adams. Tom Wilkenson stole every scene he was in as Ben Franklin and I think if they were to make a Franklin series, he'd be ideal to reprise that role. I didn't like that they glossed over two major events, the treaty of paris negotiations, which Adams was a part of, and the Constitutional convention, which he wasn't. That's why I'd love to see a Franklin series, so we'd see both of those events. I can't wait to watch the last two episodes of this series.

Haven't bought the DVDs (yet) - saw it on HBO. I think Paul Giamatti was a terrific John Adams.

I've already read the Franklin book, so I had a nice point of reference watching him. Now I want I read the Adams book to see how Giamatti matches up with the real Adams.

I didn't start watching right away, but I caught the first two or three episodes on reruns one day and was instantly hooked, and watched the rest of the series as soon as they came on.
Great acting from Giamatti, Linney and others. I liked the opening theme music too.
The thing about the American Revolution is that never before and never again did we have so many great leaders and fascinating human beings come out of a single time period from a single event.

5. yeah, i had to watch them in groups. |
|
I watched the first 2 back to back Saturday, then watched the next three together on Sunday.
Washington had a dream cabinet with Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Knox, and Randolph. That's another reason I'd like to see a Franklin series, I want to see his parties in France with Voltaire and Jefferson and his philosophers meetings in Philadelphia.
