I have Bob Dylan tickets!!!! |
|
I'm pumped. Now if only August would get here, for numerous reasons, but this is just added to the list.
I saw him last year at ACL, but this promises to be much better. A historic venue, The Brady Theater in Tulsa OK. And I'm only 7 rows from the stage dead center.

Sorry, saw him last year and that's about what it was good for.
But Elvis Costello opened and made it worth every penny.

2. Yeah, not to be a party pooper, but a few friends of mine saw him recently... |
|
They said pretty much the same thing as LynneSin. Except without Elvis Costello. And they saw him on his birthday.

4. Dylan is one of those concerts you see just to say you saw him |
|
But it just wasn't there for me. It wasn't a bad concert, just not there for me.

7. Yeah, my friends said pretty much the same thing. |
|
Which is cool, but if you're gonna pay close to $100 for a ticket (I think the tickets here were $80) you deserve a good show, whether the guy is a legend or not.

9. Yeah seeing him in a smaller venue is one of the |
|
things I'm pumped about. I would have preferred to see him down the street at the Cain's Ballroom, but having seating will be nice as well.

6. cool! Every time I've seen him he's been great |
|
I know some people have had bad experiences with Dylan shows, but the times I've been fortunate to see him he left the crowd singed :)

8. I think some of it depends |
|
on how attached you are to the songs as they are on record. If you just want to see live renditions of the studio recordings he will disappoint you. Especially when it comes to his 60's material. It has all been vastly reworked. I think they are all still top notch. Personally think it would be boring to just see him doing the songs the same way for nearly 50 years now, but I can see how it can be offputting to some people.

10. yeah, that's true -- though I must confess that, much as I've liked his shows, |
|
his live rendition of Stuck Inside of Mobile has kind of pissed me off a couple of those times. I don't want to see him just do live versions of the recorded tracks, because, as you say, it would be boring and also because I tend to trust performers to adapt, feed off the crowd, etc.
But even though I've been thrilled with his performances, the changes he made to the phrasing in the chorus of that song completely sucked the life out of it.
Anyway, didn't mean to vent about that, but your post reminded me of it :) Still, overall, he's been outstanding :applause:

12. Yeah some of it does get frustrating |
|
mine was on Tangled Up in Blue. Everytime I was really getting into singing along he slipped in some changed up lyrics. It was still a good song, but less involvement from me than I was hoping for.

I saw him last Halloween, my 5th Dylan show, and it was great. He always gives a good show. I saw him years ago when the power went out due to a storm. The band left the stage but Dylan brought them back out and they played an acoustic set for 20 minutes until the power came back on.
